Dear Friends! Last time it wasn´t a big
success, because there weren´t much people
at the U4...hope that this time will function
Here´s my favorite list for now:

    -BECKETT"Calypso Disco"(LP/"Disco Calypso"/
1977/Maybe you know this song from the
movie "The Deep"...it´s very calypso and
    summerly...Casablanca)
    -BRICK"Dusic"(7"/1977/A very nice funky
DiscoTrack and not that known here in
    Europe)
    -CAROUL DOUGLAS"Doctor´s Orders"(12"/Long
    Version/Unidisc/A better known track from
    a real great DiscoDiva...still a classic!)
-GENERAL JOHNSON"Can´t Nobody Love Me Like
    You Do"(12"/Long Version/1978/Unidisc/I
was very surprised by this track...it´s
    very DiscoFunk and danceable!)
    -STARGUARD"Theme From ´Which Way Is Up`"
    (12"/Long Version/Another DiscoFunk-Classic
who brought you "Wear It Out"/1977)
    -JACK GOLDBIRD"Can I Reach You"(12"/1978/
    EuroDiscoTrash for Hot Summer Nights...
    was a big smash-hit)
    -FUNK MACHINE"Funk Machine"(12"/Disco V./1977
    Great DiscoFunkTrack from T.K.Disco)
-KING SPORTY & THE ROOT ROCKERS"Fire Keep
    On Burning"(12"/Long V./1978/Combine it with
KC & The Sunshine Band...it smells like
    hot summer!/T.K.Disco)
    -KLEEER"Close To You"(LP/"Winners"/1979/
A very nice and elegant BlackDiscoTrack!)
    -LAKESIDE"Fantastic Voyage"(12"/Disco-Remix/
    1980/Typical Solar-Records...with a heavy
    FunkBassLine and Rap also involved!)
    -ORIGINALS"Don´t Put Me On"(Special 12Inch
    Disco Mix/1978/Fantasy Rec./Very Soulful
    but Disco-able)
    -PARLET"Ridin´High"(12"/Casablanca/Long V.
If you´re into Parliament, this one will
enjoy you, although it´s a little more
    commercial...I like it)
-JONATHAN RICHMAN & THE MODERN LOVERS
    "Egyptian Reggae"(1977/This formation was
a trashy RockBand, but with this instrumen-
tal they had a big hit here in Europe)
    -ROKOTTO"Boogie On Up"(7"/1977/Another fine
DiscoFunkTrack and another very good Black-
    DiscoCombo)
    -SOLAR FLARE"Boogie Fund"(12"/1979/Long V./
    DiscoFunk for harder Ones...)
    -SOUL DISCO BAND"Ali Shuffle"(12"/197?/I
don´t know the year and never heard of
    this band before???)
    -STYLISTICS"The Lion Sleeps Tonight"(12"/
    Long V./1978/T.K.Disco/Everyone knows that
song and hope it will function also for
    some soulless kids of nowadays!)
    -SUGARHILL GANG"Hot Hot Summer Day"(LP/"8th
    Wonder"/198?/DiscoRap or called it OldSchool
    ...Now I love this song!)
    -BARRY WHITE"Sheet Music"(12"/MidTempoDisco
Soul and typically Barry ... for people to
fall in love on the discofloor!!!)
I hope, you enjoy this list and wish you
    again PEACE ON EARTH!!!

Some excellent tracks in there , Sirius!! Even some I know!! I certainly did enjoy your list!!!

I especially love that General Johnson track - a great fave it was here in the UK. Why did it surprise you?? I've loved that one for years!!! I'll have to go and dig it out and give it a spin!!

That Stargard track is definitely a classic.
    Great funky hi-hat rhythmn!!

That Kleeer track you played - they were one of the top bands that figured in the UK soul scene, and that track to me was a nice slice of sophisticated soul/funk music. LOVE IT!!

Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage... ROCK DA HOUSE!!

Rokotto - that is one British band I haven't heard of for ages!!! I don't think I even have any of their stuff...

I also haven't heard any stuff by Parlet for ages either ...

One question for ya - I love TK records, but I don't know Funk Machine. :???: And it was from my favourite year of 1977!!

BTW Watch out .. there's an outside chance I might be in Vienna this summer!!!!

    Dear jazz_pilgrim!
Thanx for the roses again!!! I am very
interested what you say about DiscoFunkMusic
because I know that there was a massive
    "SoulBrother"-Generetion in England in the
    70ies.
About "Funk Machine": This is a more simple
track from T.K.; very functional and dance-
    able, but not thaaaaat good.
About PARLET:This is real Funk, with a heavy
bassline and sounds like Parliament in a more
    commercial way...
ROKOTTO sounds very nice and can be compared
a little bit with HI-TENSION or CROWN HEIGHTS
    AFFAIR.
About VIENNA: If you are really coming to
this city, don´t be disappointed, because
it is not a real Disco-City...everywhere
    there´s HouseMusic and Mainstream...and even
myself has to play CommercialDisco, but you
know at the beginning and ending of a set...
I can play whatever I want...and also at
HOT DISCO NIGHTS on the radio...
But if you are really coming to Vienna, just
e-mail me...I am glad to see you!
    With deep respect...

    Respect to you too!

I always look forward to your lists!!

The plan is, I have a Polish wife, and we are going out to stay with the family in Warszawa as we usually do each summer. But my wife and I are looking to travel off by train within our holiday - Prague, Budapest and Vienna are all about 10 hours' away by train - so who knows?

And I'm still waiting for your reply on your trip to Britain, so that I can advise you on the best record shops to find ......

If it moves - funk it!!
