Ah yes, remicks...and it usually starts with the Bee Gees & ABBA........I've battled this since my first days on this board. :x :P

Of course, not EVERYTHING they did was DISCO but SOME OF IT was!!!!!!!!! I danced to it--in a disco...so I think that it qualifies.

Did you dance to it in a night club/dancing establishment which were around before Discoteques though. Some clubs added the Disco tag when The likes of the awful Bee Gees (sorry if you like them) came along to spoil things. A personal non disco disco artist i hate is Tina Charles. While im here I find people ask for the disco gurus who frequent this site to identify some of the worst tracks i have ever heard in the name of disco. Is it because( like listening to a William Shatner album) its so bad its good or am I missing the point. I know its a matter of taste and I would never knock anyone for liking what they like but I feel(personal opinion) that some of the records destroyed in Kaminski park(excuse spelling if wrong) deserved to be. I can remember buying disco records and saying they were crap when they were new so what makes them good now. Dont get me wrong I like disco music.

Groover: Thank you for saying what I've been thinking for....well, forever. I really do cringe when I hear some of the tracks we're asked to identify and ask myself "why bother with THAT!!?" And another thing. Why is is that most of the tracks that need identifying are some of the most obscure records you could ever come across? I guess Discomusic.com is a last resort, rather than first port of call?

As for what is and what isn't Disco. I can see both sides of the argument and both are absolutely right. We'll all just have to agree to disagree.

I enjoy discovering & listening to a lot of the absolute horrible records some of you absolutely cannot stand.

The decade of the 1970's included a lot of horrible and ugly fashions, hair styles, television programs, electronics, footwear, home furnishings and I absolutely LOVE all of it.

Collecting 1970's memorabilia is my hobby.

Exactly !!! . The problem comes from trying to pigeonhole which acts are true "disco artists" . It's the music itself that is or isn't disco ......

Sadly I think that today when most people hear the word Disco it seems to translate into novelty or party records. YMCA ,Kung Foo Fighting,Oops upside your head(i could go on). Then theres the John Travolta syndrome which seems to affect peoples arms. This music is then associated with seventies pop music so people think that all music from the seventies is disco. Like there was only rock and roll in the fifties, flower power in the sixties we know there were other styles of music out there but peoples memories tend to merge everything. Most people only hear what they are fed through radio and never discover music for themselves which is a shame.I'll stop now as I feel I may be talking B***ocks and do not want to embarass myself further.
