    Barry White LP Question

I have pretty much every Barry White and Love Unlimited Orchestra LP and 45 from I've Got So Much To Give into the early 80's, but never heard of this until recently:

Is this version of Barry White's 'Greatest Hits' full of completely different remixes from the original LPs? Or are they just the LP mixes, whereas the commercial release version of this LP is the single mixes?

This is an interesting one DF. I 'm doubting they are anything unusual or surely ithis would have been mentioned in some topic along the way . :-? ( Would love to be wrong though )
I thought it especially noteworthy because this 1973 release refers to itself as being for " DISCO DJ 's ONLY "!! A very early "DISCO " reference ..... 8)

but then I noticed the 1974 and 1975 songs that are included.

Yes, I thought that was strange that it said 1973, yet a song from 75 (What Am I Gonna Do With You) was on it. The running times, for at least side A, seem consistent with the lengths of the LP versions, with the exception of Standing In The Shadows of Love. But that song has a long, slow intro, which they probably chopped off for this LP (it's that length on the regular Greatest Hits LP too).

I saw it going for more than $50US on Ebay, so I was wondering if there was anything special about this record.

This lp was pressed in conjunction with the 1975 commercial pressing of Barry White's Greatest Hits - the one with the gold foil gatefold cover. The commercial lp had 10 songs, all short single mixes. The white label disco dj pressing omitted "Love Serenade", "I've Found Someone" & "I've Got So Much To Give", and in their place they used full length lp versions which were segued together into a continuous mix.

It is a fairly hard lp to find... it was the 3rd promotional disco DJ pressing that 20th Century made and I think that the pressing run was fairly small. I looked for several years until I managed to find a copy.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, thanks for that information. I'm not going to dig around for it since I've already got the LP mixes. Funny that they would release versions for Disco DJs that are already mixed into each other, as you'd expect them to do their own blending. I guess that's for the ones who needed bathroom breaks longer than 7 minutes. :)

for cheaters (" love your Barry White mixing ")

It's funny how over the years the labels had such trouble figuring out just what it was that DJ 's wanted .

In this case, I don't think too many people would stay on the floor for 3 long Barry White songs one right after another. Certainly wouldn't be used in regular rotation ......

Yeah, I can imagine that even back then playing a 7 minute song in its entirety would be a bad move. Plus, in '75 the earlier Barry White tunes might not have blended well with the thumpin disco tracks of that year.

If you want the long version songs of Barry White, then get his box set "Just For You" (1992). It is a 3-CD set with liner notes and detailed discography. I'm especially happy to get the long version of "I'm Gonna Love You Just Little More Baby"!
