during the winter of 2000-01, i took a spin class at the ymca. the instructor used what he called euro dance music from compilation cd's of the mid to late 90's.he brought back from europe. i began to look forward to hearing certain songs. very danceable and filled with hooks. he eventually let me borrow a couple of the cd collections, and i found even more things i liked. yes, i made a tape of 25 of my favorite songs. but i want to know more about some of the artists/songs. were they or should they have been club hits? i keep playing these specific ones over and over.

I have Me and My "Dub I Dub"--I believe that was first released in Europe and then released in the US sometime later.

"Inside Out" and "Take Me Away" were also minor club hits in the US for Culture Beat. Their biggest hit was "Mr. Vain" around '94.

Factoids! Yes, the man behind Culture Beat died in a car crash. Actually, Culture Beat was a German studio project, similar (and at the same time as) Belgium/Dutch studio outfit Two Unlimited. The frontman/woman you saw on TV were just that, whereas the music was conceived and created in a studio by computers/professionals (perhaps even computer professionals...).

Musically, Culture Beat was somewhere between Snap (also German) and Two Unlimited. Not my favorite type of music, but what the hell...

Like so many acts from the classic days of disco, so in that respect, things haven't changed as much as we think!
