for both things, clubs and record shops, it depends on if you like dirty and cheap or nice and expensive.. there is a few in between..
for record stores the best, cheapest, and most disco records are at the thing in greenpoint brooklyn, 1001 manhattan ave.. but it is filthy. you have to wear a mask and gloves if you are not used to it.. but the records are all $2.. you can't beat it..
other shops are A1, acadamey, bleeker bob's, vinyl mania, dance tracks, gimme gimme, and stuff like that..

as far as clubs, it depends on what you want.. if you want a young dirty crowd or if you just want good music or if you want a nice place, but yeah.. the places change from week to week, so you really have to be up on it.. you can try time out or the village voice or flavorpill or nyhappenings or picking up some flyers and things at record stores.. but most promotion is done through emails and myspace and stuff like that..

The Monster in the Village is still going strong and apparently among the very few places to hear actual no frills underground disco in New York - kinda shocking but that's the way things are in the former capital of the dancing world. Check the door for any mention of dj Frankie - he spins The Perfect Beat: Pattie Brooks as loud as she gets, The Deputy of Love by Don Armando, Jeff Wayne's The Eve of The War, Costandinos, Midney, all the sounds that once boomed thru the hood and all thru The Big Apple. The joint is 80% gay but there are women there too and people do the hustle.

Be prepared to pay inflated prices for records in Manhattan

Some places do not price records on purpose so that whenever somebody asks they can size you up and see if they can take advantage of you (I have seen kids pay over $80 for just one 12" record this way, and as soon as the kid leaves the employees all break out into laughter)

As far as where to hear underground DISCO?

Try to find yourself a time machine to transport yourself back to 1978

New York City is overpriced. I do not know about New Jersey.

DC area prices are more reasonable in my opinion.

The older records are cheaper here and the newer records (example Hip Hop, House) are more expensive.
