This question is going out to former dj's.

How much new music did you introduce in an evening?

Is there a particular song that you broke in your club that became a floor packer?

Being that I play @ Nells on Tuesday nights in New York City..... I played a white label version of Alicia Keys - Wit' You which is a dance mix version from her album. It was well received. Honorable mention - Stephanie Mills - Latin Lover mixed by Masters At Work.

As much as I could. At a minimum, I would say five pieces and I'm sure I'm being conservative with that number. The Anvil, especially the Sunday night crowd, was deeply into "we don't want Top 40".

I remember putting "Souvenirs" by Voyage on the turntable ten seconds after Howard Merrit handed it to me. Orgasms everywhere and fellow co-workers frothing at the mouth.

Another was "Love and Desire" by Arpeggio. Instant positive reaction.

'Cowboy' Mike Wilkinson (Disconet/Importe 12), gave me the honor of introducing "Evita" by Festival from a reel-to-reel he had with him. He wanted to see floor reaction and I told him I could catch it and make it work. The crowd was a helluva lot more impressed than me but, hey, it worked!

I also remember the night I was handed a white label, one-sided, signed copy (by Steven Blau) of Musique's "In The Bush". Talk about outrageous floor reaction? There was just sooo much great music back then. If you didn't take chances you, and your crowd, were missing out.

These are the types of stories I love.

Doesn't this beat the downloading is a sin and I hate "Ring My Bell" threads?

Emphatically, "YES". This is the stuff I love to hear about also.

I'll keep all of the forum members up-to-date on the warm reaction to various tunes from time to time.

Keep on listening and enjoy the music!

I am interested to know what you guys think of this particular track. I asked this question previously on a similar thread - but got no reply.

I think this track should be checked out by members of this forum, as it is relevant to us all - Wit' You (the LP version at least) sounds as if it came straight off an Isaac Hayes 1972 album. It has a really good moody sultry and funky feel to it!!

This particular track (along with This Life) has received a very good reception from us ex-Funkateers here in the UK ... Any opinions?

And what is the dance mix like? Does it still keep ths "Seventies" feel to it? I would love to see a UK single release of this track, but I doubt we'll ever see that ... They've just gone with the third single off the CD and no sign of this one yet ...

I also like to keep an eye on the up-front modern stuff, 'coz there is happily some real good music being made in 2002 ...

BTW Some good news - the Angie Stone track (aka Backstabbers) has just entered our UK Top 30 yesterday...Maybe there is hope yet!!!

Alicia Keys - Wit' You Dance Mix on White Label definitely has that seventies feel to it. Sounds like the Issac Hayes track from 1972 for sure. Funky indeed guys & gals!!!!

As far as the Angie Stone cut, there's another white label dance mix of I Wish I Didn't Miss You with a real, house feel to it that's out.
I don't know who mixed this tune, but the bass is much heavier and the keys are played live without the "Back Stabbers" sample. It's better than the Pound Boys Bootleg Mix.

The hottest track that just came out on white label is the dance mix of Craig David - Fill Me In mixed by Alix Alvarez. It's hot!!!

If there's anything that's new, soulful and the white label dance mix variety, I'll let our members know from time to time.

I so wish I'd lived in NYC between '72 & '84 & experienced tracks like Arpeggio & Voyage in a brilliant disco atmosphere like Paradise Garage or The Saint. When I started to go clubbing the 'golden age ' of disco had virtually passed by.
It was all hi-NRG or house in the clubs I went to, not that I dont like these later mutations of disco, but they are to an extent poor imitations of the real thing, I think.
    ...ya gotta beat the street......

Two songs of the same era I remember as floor filler at first shot are "Good times" by CHIC and "We all need love" by TROIANO in summer 79
