    Your First Time?

    In a gay club ;)

I was a naive 18 year old and insisted a girlfriend accompany me, whilst still maintaining I was straight!

Wandered in, full of trepidation, expecting guys to be going at it on tables, under tables, over the bar or on the dance floor!

Not sure if I was relieved or disappointed that nothing ontoward was happening. Other than dancing, drinking and dodgy looking geezers in faux leather, with plaid shirts, moustaches & red hankies propping up the bar. (Took me a while to work out the ol hankie business too!) ;)

Needed a pee badly but was too scared to use the toilet, but eventually made me girlf stand outside whilst I did what was necessary :)

Took to the dance floor after a few vodka's & lime, losing the plot to stuff I'd never heard of, although occasionally the DJ played something I recognised:

    Marsha Raven - Catch Me
Jessica Williams - Queen Of Fools
Eurythmics - Love Is A Stanger & 1984 (Sex Crime)
    Yazoo - Don't Go & Situation
    New Order - Blue Monday
Boys Town Gang - Can't Take My Eyes Off You

left the dance floor and...............started smoking! (was so nervous I needed sommat to do with my hands!) ;)

Left at 2am, all hyped up and excited that I wasn't the "only one" and came out to my girlf a week later.

Trips to The Caribbean were a weekly event after that, every Weds & Sat night. The mid week night had a negative affect on me at work and I didn't get a pay rise for nearly two years!! :-?

I also got into debt through buying vinyl non-stop!

    ho hum

visited the same club in 1996 and OMFG was it BAD!

    Oh yeah - forgot!

At the end of the night, Simon (the DJ), played three slow tracks in a row and I was in shock to see guys dancing together - like me mam & dad used to! :o

I'll always associate Barbara Mason's Another Man with my local gay club.
