I thought electro-funk was stuff like 'When I Hear Music' by Debbie Deb, 'Al Nayaafish' by Hashim, and even '19' by Paul Hardcastle.

If Super Freak is Electro Funk would The Gap Band also be considered the same?

It depends on your definition of electro-funk. I've read that Rick James, Lakeside, Gap Band are considered FunkII or proto post funk.
Nucleus's "Jam on it" I believe is electro-funk. I am not as familiar with this sound as it approaches pop and rap music. But one could obviously loosely call "Superfreak" electro-funk.

It's hard for me to tell what is neo-soul and what is not. There was 2 knew distinct styles in the late 1980's to early 1990's called New Jack and retro-neuvo. The latter name I really like but its a bit hard to define because there are no definitive lines and R&B/soul is typically a catchall for Black popular music.

Rick James was never Electro-Funk. Never in a million years. If anything, he described his music as Punk-Funk.

    Best Electro-Funk track????

I'd probably go for Warp 9 - Nunk at 8:39 in the morning.

There's a piece on this site called 'Electro-Funk - What Did It All Mean', which includes a list of 100 records from 82/83:

I will definitely check that out. but yeah that neo soul I almost associate with a derivitive of soul. lots of bass, kind of mellow, or just jammin with more accents on bass and drums. plus the old school fashion look kind of enhances it. I can honestly say you can tell when you are listening to soul and listening to neo or acid jazz. I hope that makes sense.

but electrofunk is just that--electronic or crazy effects mixed in a rhythmic funky sort of way. add in some hip hop chants and party people and you have electrofunk.

but that is how I would kind of describe it.

it is funny how soul, gogo, acid, neo and even electric is all rather funky huh? yet kind of hard to describe each one
