    I don't wanna get over .....

    *****

    And speaking of ..... LOVE HANGOVER , Marky :P :P :P

I was DJing at the SFSU campus radio station then and I clearly remember a version of the song being released as a single by The Fifth Dimension first . It lingered at the bottom of the charts while Diana 's version came on and bowled it over .
I recall initially playing both versions against each other ... asking which of the two the listeners preferred and thought would "win" . It was rare that a song would get two acts releasing competing versions like this ...but once in awhile it happened . Most interesting situation ..... I bet each label was determined to outperform the other ....

In the case of "LOVE HANGOVER " ... I'm not sure who robbed it from who .... but I'd love to know the story .....

One day I'll hear the Fifth Dimension version again ....always keeping an eye out for it ... wonder if I'll be disappointed .... :-?

I believe one of the writers of the song was Pam Sawyer, who was one of the resident Motown writers, so it must have been written for a Motown artist (not sure if it was specifically written for Diana Ross).

Does a long version of the Fifth Dimension version exist? I've only seen the 45, which is 3 or so minutes.

The Fifth Dimension version was actually released as a single first, from what I've read--Diana's was still an LP track at this point-- due to disco response, Motown decided they'd better rush it as the 2nd single for Miss Ross. I think they had planned another title as the 2nd single--I'll have to check my reference books. A TV special once said there was a third version by Sylvester at this same time--I've not heard this one--if it exists. This was on that VH1 special about the Top disco records, wasn't it?

The Fifth Dimension single does chart on the disco charts--later after Miss Ross has peaked--some charts bundle them together; one (fickle chart B) drops Miss Ross and only charts Fifth Dimension!!!! THE NERVE!!!!!!!!  :P

    Remicks,

I somehow have a copy of the 7" by Fifth Dimension... must've gotten it 30 years ago as some copies were lingering instead of throwing them away. It's somewhat less effective (being polite) however, I enjoyed it... but if you play Diana's version after the fifth dimensions version. Guess which one you'll like better. 8)

I have the 5th Dimension version on a cd called "Gay classics, Vol XII: Over and Out" from Hot Productions, 1996. It clocks in at 5:30 and says it was produced by Ian Levine and Rick Gianatos. It doesn't give the year.

I don't know if its the original, a recorded version, or a remix, since the bassline sounds more 80's to me.

    Wow!

OK, Age of Aquarius - Let The Sun Shine In and One Less Bell To Answer were my favorites.
