Has Anyone Bought 'Disco Inferno' with Bonus DVD?

This CD and Bonus DVD I'm referring to is a compilation from Australia. Has anyone purchased this title or read any reviews? The bonus DVD has an impressive list of 'videos':

    http://www.sanity.com.au/product.asp...tArtistID=3974

    Disk 3
    1. Patrick Hernadez - Born To Be Alive [Dvd]
    2. Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It [Dvd]
    3. Alicia Bridges - I Love The Nightlife [Dvd]
    4. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive [Dvd]
    5. Anita Ward - Ring My Bell [Dvd]
    6. Hot Chocolate - U Sexy Thing [Dvd]
    7. Taste Of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie [Dvd]
    8. Abba - Dancing Queen (1992 Version) [Dvd]
    9. Gap Band - Oops Upside Your Head [Dvd]
    10. Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel [Dvd]
    11. Donna Summer - I Feel Love [Dvd]
    12. Sylvester - You Make Me Feel [Dvd]
    13. Kool & The Gang - Celebration (Hidden Video) [Dvd]

I was just wondering if these were original promo films or appearances on Musikladen or both. I've already got the promo film for Tavares on DVD as well as a live (but edited) version of Boogie Oogie Oogie. Also, if anyone here has seen it sold by itself, I'd like to find that out too. The CD is a waste since I've already got all of the tunes on it.

It's sold separately over here and it's nothing special really, mostly the same old material we first gawked at in clubs back then - remember the stunned reaction to the alicia bridges video shot in a club and around Times Square: "jesus this is HOT!" -, and then got used seeing c. five years ago when all the British disco docs came out one after the another.

If your in Australia this is a great cd dvd to get! Video clips from this era are hard to get in Australia. The worst clip is the 1992 version of "Don't leave me this way" would have been nice to see the original version. The best is Sylvester with You make me fell (Mighty Real) he must hold the record for the most costume changes in one music video clip. I loved seeing Taste of Honey because I never realised that the girls played bass and guitar. The two CD's are a good commercial mix of songs except I don't know why the Nolans and Leo Sayer are included on this CD yuk!!!!

That Disco Inferno DVD is different from the one included as a Bonus DVD in that CD set. It's a compilation of Musikladen performances, but they're all just lip-synching. Even so, it's interesting seeing rare 'live' performances from back in the day.

Glad to hear the bonus DVD has original promo films. What's the quality like? Do they look like they were taken from actual film stock, or some bootleg VHS?

Hey Jussik, did you see the DVD sold separately in a major outlet, or was it some small place? I've checked on hmv.com.au, but they only list the CD with DVD.

Thanks for all of your help. If it turns out I can't get it separately, I don't mind getting CD and DVD.

Major outlets, malls, general cd/dvd stores. The cover has two drawn figures in the style Wallpaper magazine made popular some years ago, very similar to the Disco Kandi cd series.

Are you referring to the one in the link posted above? That's a different DVD from the one in the CD set. That's the one with the Musikladen performances.

Its alright. I broke down and bought the CD/DVD. I'll give my opinion on the DVD when I get it.

I just bought the Disco Inferno mentioned by Bernie. It's all lyp-synch save for a terrific James Brown rendition of "Rapp Payback", with horns and all.
Can you fill me in this "Musik Laden" TV show? (I assume that's what it was.) Was it German? The dancers certainly show some nipple! :o

Nano here is an old thread about the Disco Inferno dvd
    http://www.discomusic.com/forums/vie...ghlight=#38516

The other day I played this at a party with friends and we couldn't stop laughing at Boney M , he's on some kind of drug trip

Yes, it was apparently some German program. I don't know if it was music only, or if they had comedy sketches too, like shows in the US. The audience seemed pretty bored. I couldn't believe they didn't want to get up and dance to the Jacksons 'doing' 'Blame It On The Boogie' (I put 'doing' in quotes because its all lip-synched).

Yeah, that Boney M performance was hilarious, but it was alright. The funniest performance for me was the Gibson Brothers. I have a few of their albums, and I always thought the lead singer had a weird sounding voice. But then seeing them on stage on that DVD totally weirded me out. I wasn't even sure why that guy had a guitar since he didn't even try pretending to play it that much.

My favourite segments are the Sister Sledge one and The Four Tops.

What's up with that Funkytown segment selection? It's not even Lipps Inc doing the performing. They were a black male and female outfit, not two half-naked German white chicks. :)

Re: Has Anyone Bought 'Disco Inferno' with Bonus DVD?

Well, my CD/DVD arrived. The quality overall of the videos are okay. I will indicate beside the names whether they were original promo films, sync'd up tv performances, or just plain 90's remixes. In almost all cases, the video was sync'd up with the studio/released version of the songs.

    Disk 3
    1. Patrick Hernadez - Born To Be Alive [Dvd] - original promo -- starts of with him singing amongst a bunch of tables on a street in France with a cane
    2. Kool & The Gang - Get Down On It [Dvd] original
    3. Alicia Bridges - I Love The Nightlife [Dvd] original
    4. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive [Dvd] original
    5. Anita Ward - Ring My Bell [Dvd] not sure. She's on a stage in front of a small audience, and there some sign behind her that looks like it could be the name of a tv show (I couldn't make it out).
    6. Hot Chocolate - U Sexy Thing [Dvd] - terrible 90's remix (did they do a promo film for this song? I've seen one for Emma which was released a year earlier).
    7. Taste Of Honey - Boogie Oogie Oogie [Dvd] - TV performance but with audio sync'd from studio. I've got another DVD where you hear the audio played live, but that version cuts off at the bass solo.
    8. Abba - Dancing Queen (1992 Version) [Dvd] original
    9. Gap Band - Oops Upside Your Head [Dvd] Not on the DVD! Maybe I skipped it by accident. I'll have to look again.
    10. Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel [Dvd] - original. Quality isn't as good as on the Disky DVD. The colours are all too bright and bleeding.
    11. Donna Summer - I Feel Love [Dvd] - sync up from a stage performance
    12. Sylvester - You Make Me Feel [Dvd] - definitely original. Hilarious, where Sylvester gets changed into different drag outfits in a club.
    13. Kool & The Gang - Celebration (Hidden Video) [Dvd] original.

One more interesting information. In the bonus features of the DVD, there's a Top 50 list, credited to the "users of Discomusic.com!"

The Anita Ward video on this DVD is actually taken from the old disco TV show "Soap Factory Disco."

I wish more of the performances from this show would leak out.

As far as I know, only this one and one of the Sugarhill Gang have made the light of day.

Is that the Sugarhill Gang performance that was on the Rhino VHS of old rap videos? They do Rapper's Delight and there are two pairs of disco dancers in front of them, with the audience standing around the dancers. By the end of the performance, everyone blends in together.

    Yup, that's the one.

This show had all of the top disco stars of the day on it.

I remember seeing Claudja Barry, Blondie, Sister Sledge.

I wonder who owns the rights to this show?

Perhaps the rights have fallen into the public domain.

Oh, and a word about the Patrick Hernandez video on this DVD. It is not a promo clip. It too is from a television show. But I would imagine by the accent of the host who introduces the song, the show was from Europe.

Thanks for that information. I thought it was France based on the announcer's accent and the location.
