    A side / B side #6

    *****

In 1977 J. Morali had a unique idea. Never heard anything like it before ... or since . The result was a TK 12" with two versions of a song called DISCOMANIA by The Lovers.

    SIDE A is 5:40
    SIDE B is 6 :27

What was it about this record that made the two sides vary in length ??

    ????? :-? :-?

Could the song be sped up on one version and slowed down on another?

    Burma East Music
    Sherlyn Publishing

I have this 12" and need to dig it out. Isn't one side instrumental, i.e., they just sing the Discomania part without the other songs???

    Yep :D

Jacques Morali decided to put out a Richard Rome disco medley featuring some of the recent blockbusters of the time ...... such as "TURN THE BEAT AROUND " :D , "THAT'S WHERE THE HAPPY PEOPLE GO " 8) , ........ "DADDY COOL " :o

BUT just in case you didn't care for the medley itself ... the "B" side features this medley song .... minus the medley !

The non-medley side is actually pretty good ...
odd sound included here though .... like electronic turkeys gobbling .... (?)

Anyway .....SIDE "A" is this medley song with the medley included
.................SIDE "B" is this medley song with the medley excluded ....

 ....I'm sure there was debate as to whether to put that gimmicky sound in . Not sure the right person won .....

One other odd thing .. ..the way the word "Discomania " is sung so that it is pronounced similarly to Pennsylvania . I 've always pronounced "mania " ...may-nee-a .... not mane-ya .....
(just one of those little things that kind of hurts the ears .....  )

This is one TK 12" where the Part 2 was actually different from Part 1. All their other 12"s were rip-offs because Pt1 and Pt2 were the exact same versions of the songs.

For this 12", as has been mentioned, the A side has original music plus the medley of tunes, whereas the B side has just the original music. But there aren't any verses or a lot of singing. It's also full of lots of breakdowns. Enough to get it stuck on a breakbeat compilation called Schoolyard Breaks Vol.1 that was release a few years ago. I'm not sure if it was scratched by the DJs back in the day.

It's weird that J Morali did this track because he already did a medley of the current days' hits with the Ritchie Family called 'Best Disco In Town'. However, 'Discomania' is somewhat funkier than 'Best Disco In Town', so i think it's a better tune. I also prefer Side B over Side A because of the syncopated drum breaks.
