    Disco Lucy

Hey! Does anyone know if the single version of "Disco Lucy" has ever been issued on CD? I know there's a CD out now that has the 12" version, but's it's a continuous play compilation and I really want the single version. I still love it after all these years.

    thanks

This compilation seems to have a 3:34 version:

    http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?

I don't know if that's the single length. What's the difference between the shorter mix and the longer one, other than the length? I thought most people preferred longer cut.

Addition: I just listened to the sound sample on allmusic - he talks over it, so forget that version.

It was pressed on 12" in the UK, but so far as I remember it was a very short track and not extended.

Thanks for the replies so far. As for why I would prefer the shorter version over the 12", it's the only version I have known for 30 years. I just got to hear the 12" two weeks ago, but it's just too different for me and since it was from a continous play compilation, I can't burn it onto my own CD (the end cuts off  ).

    still hoping it's out there

Maybe I'll have my vinyl single put on CD

Thanks, RU but if you read the first reply to my post, it states that there is talking over beginning of the song, and it also says this on the reviews of this CD on Amazon.com.

Can you confirm that there is no talking over the track?

"Disco Lucy" is a type of song you would have never thought of existed! However, the song itself is fine and worth the time to listen to!

The flipside wasn't too bad either.

Sorry folks, but IMO (and I'm not alone) this was one of the records that got Disco a bad name. Luckily, producers penchant for reviving show tunes, TV themes and the like, quickly passed and relative sanity was once again restored.

It was definitely cheesy, but I love the breakdowns.

I thought it was a joke back in tha day--but I must admit I like it today...

But then "I LOVE LUCY" is my fave TV show of alltime. :D

Michael Franks, the pop/lite jazz singer, did a nice slow ballad cover version on one of his Nineties cds (I thought it odd but I think his wife is/was named "Lucy")

Q, I draw the line at Wing & A Prayer Fife & Drum Corps--I've gotta punish myself with their "Just An Old-Fashioned Medley" cause it's gonna hit the charts soon--briefly, thank gawd.

    1. Just An Old Fashioned Medley: Swanee, Toot Toot Toosie Goodbye, Oh You Beautiful Doll, Best Things In Life Are Free, Blue Skies, I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover

But Salsoul Orchestra's "New Year's Medley" ventured into the same dangerous territory... anytime Stephen Foster chestnuts are given a disco beat with a banjo...it's time for the barf bag.

"OH DEM GOLDEN SLIPPERS" indeed.!!!!!!!! :P :x

Disco Lucy serves as an introduction on the Norman Jay CD and you can hear Norman's voice on most of the song. Not a clean edit if that's what you're looking for. I have several extra copies of the 12". Let me know if you're interested

If you can find the promo CD of the Norman Jay Compilation there is no talking over the intro to Disco Lucy.

Before the Wilton Place version the New York Rubber Rock Band released in '75 a different version on Henry Street Records (HS-10001) This one has more of a Latin/Jazzy sound featuring an electric guitar solo doing the Theme over Wah wah rhythm guitar and congas with minimum distant background harmonizing vocals and a couple of "Disco Lucys", this one sounds like a typical Lounge band of the day but is not bad at all.....
