Oh Boy oh Boy!!! Happens to them all I guess. Must be strange presenting yourself singing same songs (I presume), looking so very different to how people remember you. People change of course, but compared to how she used to look.....

Be nice, guys! Remember...it could be an inability to say no to junk food or it could be a health problem. Let's not rush to judgment.

Guys, I told ya so!!! I was shocked-- I say, SHOCKED when the TV screen caption IDed "France Joli" as this Miss Piggy lady took the stage on that PBS disco "Your Music" special....I gasped!!!! France was a teenage Lolita!!! I woulda guessed this hefty bag was maybe Karen "Hot Shot" Young--but she be dead...so maybe Tata Vega (too cruel??)or .....who????? :oops:

A blog-friend of mine posted a shot from that a few months ago. I was rather surprised, but it has been 20 years since she was last in the spotlight. A lot can happen in two decades.

Time is not as kind to some people as it is to others. And before you judge, try to imagine what you'll look like in 2025. :)

Well, we don't know why she's that size. There are many things (such as thyroid problems) that can lead to such weight gain.

And even if it is due to compulsive overeating, there's a lot more than just not being able to say no... just like alcoholism isn't about being too weak-willed to let go of the bottle.

Sorry, but it's not that simple. It's not fair to assume that everyone's body works the same. A person's metabolism can change over time. Many medications can cause weight gain as a side effect. And some people simply cannot be thin without starving themselves... haven't you seen Margaret Cho's I'm The One That I Want ? :)

Well, it brings up a few interesting things:

- The response to her change in appearance raises the point: did people buy her records because they liked her songs, or because she was pretty? If they liked her songs, why should anyone care what she looks like today?

I think what's most shocking about France Joli now is that her image as a pretty 17-20something girl is frozen in the mind's eye of many people. That's because she's not in the public eye much like say Madonna or even Donna Summer. Which makes me give her even more credit for getting up on stage & singing as she is today. (I've heard a few stories about her over the years. That she had a very domineering stage mother, she never married or sustained personal relationships long, & that she suffered severe bouts of depression when her stardom faded).

I haven't seen Cho's film ..... what does she claim???

I have seen several seasons of "SURVIVOR" . And amazingly .. ... under such a controlled environment ... I have never ever never, not once seen someone gain weight in the process. I can't figure this mystery out ....

True . I include medicines as part of what one intakes (eats) . It's about all that goes in ....

Ahhhh, but not all of us get old and fat . And yes a performer has a right to choose that. And then we have a right to notice.

( I'll say this ......find me someone (who lives alone) and looks like France Joli 1980 and somebody (who lives alone) and looks like France Joli 2005 and I'll bet you my beloved 12" copy of "MY SWEET SUMMER SUITE" :cry: that by looking at the pantry and the refrigerator/ freezer of the two..... I can tell you which France Joli is who ........ :P )
