    The Meters or Chocolate Milk

OK, let's see if this has traction. 8)
I originally was gonna post this in the form of a question. That question being just how good a group is Chocolate Milk?
I figure I'd spice it up a little and do a head to head matchup.
So now I'm asking which of these groups is better or which one do you like the most?
I really know very little about either. My experience with The Meters is their session work with Labelle on the Nightbirds album. I really enjoyed their musicianship.
As for Milk Chocolate, I really only know one song they did. That song was the very catchy Let's Go All The Way.
As it stands I'm leaning towards The Meters primarily due to reputation. What do y'all have to say about these New Orleans bands?

    No contest! The Meters.

This band epitomised the New Orleans funk sound that was very distinct and terrificly funky. Whether this was down to the Neville brothers or Alan Toussaint the producer, or both.....who knows, but the results were some of the best sounds of the early to mid '70s. A fairly regular band on my turntables.

Chocoalte Milk had an absolutely brilliant one-off (for me at least) dancefloor hit with Action Speaks Louder Than Words in '75/'76. If you can find a much slinkier, more low down grinding funk track, please let me know (George Duke, Johnny Guitar Watson excepted).

Definitely The Meters.Suggest you go a seek out their debut Lp "The Meters" which I believe is on CD.Very distinctive funk sound.Great songs such as Cissy Strut,Sophisticated Cissy and Here Comes The Meter Man
    From Allmusic
"The Meters defined New Orleans funk, not only on their own recordings, but also as the backing band for numerous artists, including many produced by Allen Toussaint. Where the funk of Sly Stone and James Brown was wild, careening, and determinedly urban, the Meters were down-home and earthy. Nearly all of their own recordings were instrumentals, putting the emphasis on the organic and complex rhythms. The syncopated, layered percussion intertwined with the gritty grooves of the guitar and organ, creating a distinctive sound that earned a small, devoted cult during the '70s, including musicians like Paul McCartney and Robert Palmer, both of whom used the group as a backing band for recording. Despite their reputation as an extraordinary live band, the Meters never broke into the mainstream, but their sound provided the basis for much of the funk and hip-hop of the '80s and '90s."

Re: The Meters or Chocolate Milk

No contest - The Meters. Actually I prefer their pre-Reprise/Warner period (i.e. Josie years), but they had some good mid 70's cuts. Chocolate Milk had that one good cut 'Action Speaks Louder Than Words', but The Meters have tons of classics like 'Cissy Strut', 'Chicken Strut', 'Look-Ka-Py-Py' (I can never spell this right), etc....

The Meters had some good instrumental songs. Rhino has a 2-CD anthology loaded with pictures, liner notes, and virtually every significant song the group recorded. It is worth seeking and highly essential.

The Meters seem to be winning this hands down. Yeah, I will look for them.
Look for more of these head to head things later

    Chocolate Milk

Is that the same Chocolate Milk that released I'm Your Radio on RCA - PC 2030? Good Groove and brilliant chat up line in the lyrics - "I'm your radio, turn me on"!!!!!
