    Patrick Cowley - Megatron Man

1981 waaaaaay ahead of its time and sounding like nothing else around at that time.

20 years later and it'd have been called Trance!

Interesting, I payed this as part of a classic Hi nrg set in Marbella a few years a go. it got a great dancefloor response, and younger folk coming up to the decks to find out what the tune was.

I agree, 'I feel love' does it. As a genre though, the Boystown Gang 'Can't take my eyes off you' broke out in 1982, went top 10 and made many more people aware of the Boystown/Hinrg genre.

Hi dave.. Gotta agree - Boystown gang "cant take.." has goota be one of the most important/influencial tracks early on in the genre

Hey guys, if you're gonna mention Boystown Gang you may as well go the whole hog and plump for The Village People - YMCA / Go West / In The Navy as starting the whole ball rolling with "gay orientated dance music"

...and "Menergy." Virtually all the stuff Cowley produced. He was the one who made a step in the right/hi nrg direction.

I would also like to add Hazel Dean's Searchin' ("energy master" I. A. S.).

I would also say I FEEL LOVE.
Donna Summer's timeless opus was already THE perfect HiNRG/disco hybrid back in 1977.

From her icy diva phrasing to the electronic backing and Giorgio's exceptional production.
Patrick Cowley's mega remix 5 years later ; only made it even hotter.

15 minutes of pure bliss !!

I was in a gay club in Copenhagan back in 1995 and the DJ managed to make this track go on for over 20 minutes, splicing in the remix by Faithless, just for added oomph - gawd it was heaven :icon_razz:

I think Donna summer - i feel love started the whole thing off so it should be the most important.I think Evelyn thomas - high energy , miquel brown - so many men and patrick cowley - menergy are important too.

The UK produced tracks definitely gave the genre a higher profile.

But you could argue that I feel Love (original version) not the Cowley remix, was just basically D.I.S.C.O! Whereas The Immortals - Ultimate Warlord had that hi-nrg feel prior to anything else and was from around the same time.

I was listening to this great track recently . I have it on the Dutch Rams Horn label. It would definitely benefit from a new remix.

I'm going with you on this marmite...it's a disco rather than hi-ng track to me too.
'Ultimate Warlord' is one of those mad records that only worked in Gay clubs and made no sense outside of them....maybe you just had to be there !

But the title of this thread makes no real sense to me.
