Are alternative lifestyles more accepted in Europe?

Are gays/lesbians/transgendered people more accepted in Europe?

If I were to guess I would say that countries like Italy, France, Sweden, Denmark would be more accepting, but England would not be as accepting.

It could also have to do with what part of that country. Speaking as an ex-Londoner, I would say that in London and say Manchester in the north of England, would be more Alternative Lifestyle friendly. And as a european I would say the same for most western european counties, ie. major/large cities are more open to Alternative Lifestyles. So as I have been told for places like Australia & New Zeland, (London is full of Australia/New Zeland pack packers).

Continental Europe has always been more liberal & cool about such things; it's all due to the 'Napoleon' effect I believe; us Brits never had this & so stayed in the dark ages!

Why is nobody mentioning Belgium here?
Gays and Lez' can marry legally here, soon they will be able to adopt children and if you are a transgender you can change your official identity without any expence (ID-card, legal status).

Are they accepted in society? Yes, the majority of people here are very tolerant towards same-sex couples. Discriminating gay people is punishable by law over here. So if you are happy and gay, you can have a good life in our country.

However, if you are not keen on paying high taxes (56% on your income and a list of other communitytaxes :evil: ), don't come live here coz' the Belgian State is specialised in thievery. But hey, we have only 10.000.000. people living here and we have 7 governments and those poor politicians needzto be paid :evil:

Don't complain about the taxes Johan, ya still got 44% left and with your wealth how many more Porches can you buy :lol:

1. You can not marry 2 partners but...you can sign a contract at city hall which gives you the same benefits and legal status as if you were married and yes, it's not forbidden to sign it with different partners at the same time

2.My wealth :o I'm so rich that I usually work 17 hours a day 24/7. And yes I do own 2 Porsches, a brand new 997 (since july) and a vintage 911 from '71 and a BMW 645csi from 1979. Those are the toys.

For daily use I have a Mercedes G wagon (leased) and a Brabus K8 (personal car) and Nicole drives a Mercedes SLK (also leased). No more new BMW's coz' I don't like 'em anymore. So that makes 2 cars (except for the classics which I bought very cheap) that are really mine. I don't have a big house coz I don't need it (I'm on the fun-fair almost the whole day from march till december). So that hardly makes me a Donald Trump, Belgian version :lol: :lol: and very honestly, I pay my taxes and even a whole lot of taxes :D

Gay marriages are frequent in Denmark as well. The first one was in 1989 and I believe we were the first country in the world to legalize it. Still, this a city hall thing only (conservative forces within the danish church will not accept anything else)
It's also allowed in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, and Portugal.

It's always religion that disctates how liberal a country's attitudes are. Look around the world - the amount of sexual repression (or any repression for that matter) is always proportionate to the strength of religious power over the politics of any country. The UK is less progressive than many of its continental friends mainly because of the power of the Church of England's grip over everything the government tries to do to change things. Napolean basically seperated the church from politics in many Euro countries & how it improved things! :P

But even in Belgium and Holland gays can not marry in church. And for Britain, the Queen is the head of the church so I doubt this will be allowed in your country very soon.

BTW, coming soon, Al Pacino as Napoleon, I'm very curious about that movie. Will he speak French, vill he say zis only wonce?

Who's directing this movie? I'm kinda having a hard time seeing Al Pacino as Napoleon.

K, the same team that has worked with him on "The Merchant Of Venice (2004), director Michael Radford and producer Barry Navidi.

They hope to enter the film for the Cannes festival in 2007. Filming will start next summer.
