La Toya Jackson (the one with the action)

Anybody else on here love the criminally overlooked La Toya Jackson? Michael and Janet get all the attention, but Toy's far more fun.

She had a modest disco hit in '80 with "If You Feel the Funk" but her career has mostly been defined by flops. She's been a running joke since the late 80s, but her first four albums are gems. MY SPECIAL LOVE is my favorite: "Stay the Night" and the Quincey-Jonesque "Love Song" should've gotten some club play. Her mid-80s stuff reminds me of 5 Star. Her Full Force/Faltermeyer/SAW album from '88 LA TOYA is a masterpiece in its own right.

All you La Toya fans come out of the closet! :P 8)

I'm surprised she didn't do better. "Lovely Is She." is a track I quite like. She seems to have been one of those artists that got lost in the crowd, because of her siblings' success no doubt. The last decent thing she did IMHO, was in '88 with Full Force, "You're Gonna Get Rocked". And she looked like her bro, bleached skin, narrow nose, stick legs  Going slightly nuts, didn't exactly help her career prospects. Neither did her ex husband.

    Sad.

.....Maybe she thought Michael's success was all about slicing and dicing and make-up. She overlooked one other important element ....the guy could sing 8) ..... She would have fared far better to emulate the methods of her sister Janet ...that is to say putting lots of hard work into becoming a top notch dancer and performer .... and of course ..... releasing quality material !! :D :P

I love LaToya, I really do .. She's quite simply the most entertaining, intriguing and enigmatic Jackson.. I bought her book around 7 years back, got the 12" of "You're Gonna Get Rocked" and there was no turning back.. :) That was the JAM! It seems she was known as the classy, sophisticated Jackson sister before Jack Gordon got a hold of her.. I think it was only after Jack Gordon's crazy publicity stunts that people started talking about how untalented she was.. If she had the right people behind her, she could have had more success IMO.. I always thought she had a limited, though charming voice, esp. on those early '90s German House records haha.. Her voice was certainly no more limited than many other female pop stars in the 80s..

I think i read that in an old issue of JET or Ebony I think haha.. It was an article on the Jackson family or the Jackson sisters, I forget now.. She's the ultimate guilty pleasure.. You haven't heard a high note until you've heard her reach one in her song - "Camp Kuchikaiai".. I guarantee, it'll take your breath away ..

During the darkest 1980's LaToya arrived to my town here in Finland. I naturally pushed right to the edge of the stage trying hard to comprehend the situation as she stomped out from the wings, that era personified in a two piece outfit, complete with rhinestones and enormous shoulderpads. She was a macabre sight, her eyes cold and staring, very frightening really. Next week, Divine came, and the stage nearly collapsed as he suddenly began bellowing and jumping up and down. After the gig he was trying desperately to get someone, anyone, any guy at all. These images are coming back now, bad things pushed back into dark corners of my mind. The eyes of LaToya, The London Boys, Carol Jiani pushing a gay guy into the ground and fondling his crotch, screaming "look, he's getting an erection!".
