    BUYER BEWARE! Get Disconnected CDs

I'm posting these comments here largely because Bernie's name is on the Get Disconnected Web site giving their products rave reviews, but I wanted to let people know that my experience with these guys is something far different.

Back on July 17--two months ago from today--I purchased two Debbie Jacobs CDs from Get Disconnected, Undercover Lover and High on Your Love. I had initially found these CDs for sale at Amazon, but since I knew the CDs came from Get Disconnected, I thought it made sense to deal with them directly, and I also wanted to give my business to the small independent rather than the giant.

I paid for the CDs immediately through PayPal--then waited. And waited. I finally wrote to them on Aug. 7 to inquire about the status of my order and after a few more e-mails was told that the UL CD would be mailed on Aug. 11--but not the HoYL CD because there was a manufacturing delay. I can accept that the delay on HoYL might have been beyond their control, but even the UL CD never showed up until Aug. 30.

The Get Disconnected Web site later added an announcement that there was a manufacturing delay for some of their CDs, and that they would be available on Aug. 31. Not surprisingly, I still have not received a copy of the HoYL CD--which I paid for two months ago--and two recent inquiries about the status of my order have gone unanswered.

I had been really happy to see these Debbie Jacobs albums finally available on CD, but now I'm twice as frustrated with the way Get Disconnected does business.

Hey. Same deal here. I purchased "High on Your Love" and the Sister Power CD at the same time back in July. Waited and waited. Heard nothing. Wrote email after email without response. Finally I put in a dispute through PayPal. The dispute was resolved in my favor. However Getdisconnected had no funds in their PayPal account to refund me. Eventually some poor soul bought something from them and as soon as the funds wound up in Getdisconnected's account, I received a refund to my credit card from PayPal.

I would never ever order from Getdisconnected again. I did order the Disco Classics and hiNRG CDs that they were offering...but I ordered them from Amazon. It took Amazon more than 3 months to fill that order.

    Buyers beware.

    Jeff,
Thanks for bringing your problem to light and letting others know about it. I was hoping for good things to come out of this new label, but it seems that the crucial component of customer service is sorely lacking. I would like to think it was bad judgement on their part and not a deliberate attempt to deceive the buying public, but nonetheless not good business practice.

Please note that my review only concerns the material on the discs and not their service as I have never ordered anything from them.

If you must buy any CD regardless of label, I would strongly recommend buying through Amazon where you can be assured of getting your money back should there be a problem.

    Bernie--

Maybe it would be a good idea to contact them--assuming such a thing is possible--and ask to have your name and the name of this site taken off their home page. Having your name and the DiscoMusic.com name there could be misconstrued as an endorsement of their business, even if you never intended it to be so.

I thought there was something odd going on with this company as a while back someone said that they were going to release all of Paul Sabu's productions on CD such his Ann Margaret LP from '79 but I've not seen anything since. Seems like they ran out of money or something? :-? Shame really. :(

I'm happy to report I just received a response to my Email inquiry from getdisconnected.com. :D Apparently, they encountered some unexpected production delays. However, they said the Debbie Jacobs "High On Your Love" CD should be shipping around October 18, 2005, with Sister Power following a week later.

That was most likely me - glad I could help!

Make sure you order it from someone reliable such as Amazon.

This past Saturday, Oct. 22nd, 2005, I received an Email notice that getdisconnected.com shipped the Debbie Jacobs "High On Your Love" CD to me. So, let's cross our fingers and hope it's true! I'll let you know if and when I receive the CD.

Sorry...but my bank account thanks you!!!

It's a shame about this company though.

Try to support independent companies and you get screwed!

I'd still like to have the Debbie Jacobs and Sister Power CDs though.

I'm happy to report I received the Debbie Jacobs "High On Your Love" CD in the mail yesterday (Oct. 27, 2005). :D

Plus, the guys apparently are trying to turn around the bad press. They sent me an Email earlier in the week to check to see if I received the CD yet (even when they were without power in Miami due to the latest Hurricane).

So, if you haven't received your CD yet, you might want to send them a friendly Email inquiry.

    Keefec,
Excellent! I've been talking with the head guy at GetDisconnected and he told me this should be resolved soon and it looks like it has. He said he will respond publicly on the forums soon.

I'm pleased to report that I (finally!!!) received a copy of the HoYL CD in the mail last week too (more than three months after I paid for it). No follow-up e-mail from GetDisconnected to see if I received it though--but then maybe I had really pissed them off with my frequent inquiries about where the hell was my CD??! ;) (I'm sure Keefe's inquiries were more polite than mine!)

The quality of the CD seems fine, actually better than the Undercover Lover CD, which they claim is "remastered." I read in the related post that someone else had concerns about the quality of the GetDisconnected re-releases. Does anyone else who has the UL CD also notice a low hum during "Hot Hot (Give It All You Got)," at least when wearing headphones?
