ALL THESE REHASH REMIXES OF OLD HITS 2000 STYLEEEE

    Evening peeps,

Now, what's you're comments on this then?

This is different to what Marmite posted earlier as the Fun Fun track was remixed not long after release and the Donna Summer track was originally a Disconet mix.

Do you think the old tracks like Lama 'Love on the rocks' should be remixed 2000 styleee by Almighty or anybody else come to that matter, or should they concentrate on new material?
Do you think the old classics should be brought out on collections untouched?

My opinion is they should leave well alone and leave us to our happy memories of the original!!!!

I wasn't sure if you were specifically referencing this or not but I actually read on the Almighty messageboard a month or two that Almighty has a cover version of Lama's "Love On The Rocks" they plan to release at some point in the future.

I agree that a lot of the covers and re-remixes can be either just unnecessary or even total hatchet jobs at times but I think it can also be interesting to hear new mixes of some of the old tracks and they can expose the track to a new audience.

In fact I'll admit I'd never heard of "Love On The Rocks" before so when I read that Almighty were going to cover it I sought out an mp3 of the track and really like it.

I have to agree that sometimes the originals are best left alone. It happens though not just in nrg, but across the board in dance music. Some of the remixes of cover versions work well, and I must admit Almighty & Klone did some cracking ones in the past. Not really heard much of the new material as I lost interest in the newer nrg stuff around 1994 as it started to be mostly cover versions and not many new ideas.

Incidently did you know Love On The Rocks is actually a copy of El Velero by Lucio Battisti from 1977? I prefer Lama's track though, much more trippy!!

oop, I'm sorry I think I was unclear. I meant I went and found an mp3 of the Lama version when I heard that Almighty were going to do a cover version (the Almighty one hasn't been released yet). I like the Lama version a lot. :)

    It's a conspiracy!!

Here's me, trying the best to cope with being outbid for a much sought after 12" on ebay, due mainly to my bloody computer freezing and ALL you lot can talk about is Lama this, Lama that, Lama's really brilliant, Lama's trippy.....

    ARGHHHHHHH

PPS: I've already made my position clear on Almighty & Klone.

They shoulda left well alone, stuck to playing the originals at gay clubs in the early 90's and (shock horror) made some new tunes!!!

    Let Me Feel It
    In The Evening
Lay All Your Love On Me
    Babe We're Gonna Love Tonight
    Can't Live
    Close To Perfection
Love's Gone Mad (So have the Almighty remixers!!!)

    Grrrr

It's not often a remake outshines the original.

Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb being an exception! ;)

Almighty are not doing a cover version of 'Love On The Rocks'. They are remixing the original version.I'll reserve judgement till i hear it. However they did do some cracking remixes of Savin' Myself, Babe We're Gonna Love Tonite and Come And Get Your love.Oh and In The Evening.

I ENTER "UNARMED".. NOT A TRAFFIC CONE IN SIGHT.. OR KY JELLY

Some of the early ALMIGHTY & KLONE stuff was pretty cool - I thought BABY DON`T CHA LEAVE ME THIS WAY by ROYAL T was superb... Nowadays both labels seem to churn out non descript cover versions of top 10 pop hits which usually are dire to start with... I really wish both labels would start to write/ produce original material. I have not bought anything from these labels in ages... I would prefer to spend my dosh on finding the old classics on vinyl. I must admit some of the Almighty remixes of hi-nrg classics have been ok (In the evening + I believe in dreams)

Almighty still have a really devoted fanbase and seem to put out a new release every month or two. I think they may not be doing as well as they were a few years back but that's due to the whole downturn of the music industry in general especially in regard to all of the remix commissions they used to get for major label artists.

Regarding "Love On The Rocks," that's even more interesting if the Almighty version is going to be a remix of the Lama version and not a cover as I'd initially thought. I'm definitely excited to hear what they'll do with it.

Apparently a remix of carl been's " i was born this way" was released this week, dunno by whom or where, I'll save my opinion til i hear it. Generally however i am opposed to remixes of classic tunes. I once heard a remix of Silvetti's "Spring Rain". I wanted to throttle the remixer

Straightacting, Do you remember DMC doing a series of remixes of motown tracks in the middle 90's? Most of them were excellent especially the Teena Marie 'I need your lovin''. They were just slightly modernised but not ruined. There I liked. But that Atlantic CD and the Motown one posted on another thread. Urgh!!!

Yes, I do remember the DMC remixes, I also heard a decent remix of " Machine", "there but for the grace of G-d " from 92? that was fantastic, but more often than not, I find the remix ers destroy more than they create.
