Andy, I really thought I knew it all when It came to hi nrg but your knowledge amazes me, where are you from, where did you go clubbing etc??
 Thanks. I started collecting in 1987, used to go out to The Nightingale in Birmingham to listen to Tony de Vit and the Powerhouse also in Birmingham to hear Funky Dunc (Duncan Finlayson). Both sadly no longer with us.
I started playing out myself in '89 at and then became resident at The Nightingale in 1990 when Tony had changed his sound to Belgian techno, which a few of the regulars couldn't quite into!! I played Nrg & vocally house there right up until 1994 when I got more into house and hard house which is baiscally what I play now along with techno.
I still love my nrg & disco and am always looking out for tracks that I missed out on before I started collecting. A bit of a fanatical collector! 8)
Hi AndyOriginally Written by Andy Farley
I remember Duncan.. I met him a few times when he was over in Manchester. I was a regular at Les Cockell`s record shop in the gay village (I spent most of my saturday afternoons in the shop chatting with Les & spending loads of dosh on all those hot hi-nrg imports). Duncan was a great guy !! Les sadly died in the mid 90s - They are both sadly missed but will live on in our memories and the great music they gave us over the years. 8)
Hey Neil. Don't know if it's a coincidence, but the pile of hi-nrg tunes I bought all those years ago (late 90's), al belonged to "Les". Many of them were autographed, with the message "To Les, many thanks" etc (Paul Parker, Sharon Dee Clarke, Jessica Williams)
Perhaps the same Les?
Hi Andy.. They probably were his records. I have bought quite a few 12" singles recently from a second hand shop in Manchester and they had his name written on them or the name of his shop... I also have quite a few that belonged to Moz Morris (DJ in Blackpool). I recently found a great record shop not far from where I live. They have a shop AND cellar full of boxes crammed full of 70s/80s dance /pop/hi-nrg stuff, Went in yesterday and found some great stuff including CINEMA "I LOVE MEN", WATERFRONT HOME "TAKE A CHANCE ON ME" - They were bargains!!Originally Written by marmite7
Not sure if you got my e-mail yesterday. Did you receive those hi-nrg charts & that £5.00 payment for the Vikki Benson 12". Can you let me know they arrived OK.. Cheers pal :D

I was gonna bid on that lama as well..but spent too much already
I knew Les really well from when I used to go up to Rockies in Manchester around 1989-1990. I covered for him once downstairs in the Mineshaft. Another sad loss too.
I used to go to the Powerhouse a lot int eh late 80s and whenever I hear P-Machinery by Propaganda and Running Up That Hill by kate Bush I think of Funky Dunk.
Do you know if they were special remixes or just the standard 12" versions that he played?

Hi guys,Happy new year to all...i remember going into spin inn on cross st all those years ago, they had a gay disco chart, thought it was fantastic, you could buy all those european and american imports from there..
Then les opened his own shop energise records, and well i thought id died and gone to heaven,he would try his best to get you anything you wanted.
Do visit the shops around oldham st in manchester occasionaly and you can pick up a rare gem or 3 there, not come across any signed copies yet though, but if i did it would be an honour to own a piece of vinyl that was dedicated to the late great les cokell.
Still have mix tapes done by duncan and moz morris, and of course mike coppock one of thses days ill transfer to cd,still good to stick one on and relive those great days..ahhhhhhh:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:
