I can only think of these

    Lime - Greatest Hits
Lime - Your Love (they never put You'r My Magician on the Greatest Hits).
Pet Shop Boys - Introspective (not sure if it can all be classed as hi-nrg but it's from the period)
    Hi-nrg (streetsounds compilation)
Carol Jiani - The Woman In Me (I think that was the title, the first one, I didn't know there had been a Greatest Hits out)
Donna Summer - Another Place and Time
    Record Shack Vol 1

    Re: Favourite Hi-NRG Album

Not counting compilations, my choice could be PLEASE, the first Pet Shop Boys album released in 1986.

By the time of the release, The Pet Shop Boys called themselves a hi-nrg band.

I've read collectors calling them hi-nrg-influenced-pop music. Others called them Euro-Disco. The Pet Shop Boys themselves said that tracks on that 1st album (Love Comes Quickly / Tonight Is Forever), plus tracks on the follow-up 1986 remix album "DISCO" (Paninaro, Love Comes Quickly remix & In The Night) ARE italo-disco songs.... although produced in England... but trying to emulate the romantic, cheese, obvious, banal "italo" feel.

Please... they haven't said that in a "negative" way... They said they loved banal produced sounds... and they loved italo and hi-nrg.

Rightly or wrongly , my opinion is that euro, italo and hi-nrg are produced the very same way.... the same 80's keyboard technology. So my choice for my favourite hi-nrg sounding album could be the Pet Shop Boys first album... or even their second, which has Italo sounding (??), Euro Disco sounding (??), Hi-nrg styled (??) songs like It's A Sin, What Have I Done To Deserve This, Hit Music, One More Chance and I Want To Wake Up.

    my favourite Hi-NRG Albums

    A nice discussion thread, indeed.

Personally, I prefer 12" singles to any LP for the obvious reasons. However there were quite a few LPs in that Hi-Nrg / Italo / Euro period that stand out above the rest. To me these are:

    1. Pet Shop Boys - Actually, this is one of the top LPs on my list that I usually listen from the beginning to the end..

    2. Den Harrow - Overpower LP (Tom Hooker on vocals, Baby Records, Italy)For those who are into Italo Disco - this must be "IT".

    3. Fancy - Contact LP (Metronome, Germany)- a monumental LP from a German "uber schlager-meister"

    4. Aleph - Big Brother LP (Time Records, Italy) - probably the very finest LP in Italo High Nrg pre-house production, every song on this LP had a 12" single issued. Something that I've never seen before and since

    5. Fred Ventura - East And West (Time Records, Italy) - the same as #4, but two songs did not make it on 12". others are fantastic.

    6. Tom Hooker - Bad Reputation (Baby Records, Italy) A different kind of Italo, most of Tom's songs were more cerebral than the rest, and a great voice too...

    Thanks for reading.

    Re: Favourite Hi-NRG Album

In response to this aging thread, I'll have to resurrect (from my vault) Geraldine Cordeau's "Space & Time" album - a phenomenal 8 track LP released in 1984 by Matra Records. All the songs are incredible, "Maybe Tonight" and especially the title track "Space And Time". The album also includes “Sounds In The Night", an extended hit single released earlier in 1982. The instrumentation, lyrics and vocals are all top notch, and not to mention, a very well produced album.
I recently re-mastered the vinyl into a CD album. Amazing drums and vocals!

RECORD SHACK VOLUME III ihas some great re-mixes of all those classic UK produced tracks - I love the BARBARA PENNINTON mix and the MIQUEL BROWN MIX By SIMON CAPES. I think the EARLENIE BENTLEY MIX contains the USA remix of I`M LIVING MY OWN LIFE.. Great stuff
