That would be really great !! Do you think he would be interested ?. It be fascinating to hear all about his DJ years at heaven and find out more about his years writing/producing.
I am considering asking Ian Levine to make a " guest appeareance "on here soon so that we may get the full story on record Shack and all the rest, do you think this is something that would be of interest to the members here??

If enough people show interest , I'll phone ian and ask him to come on here at a pre aranged time and date to chat with us.Originally Written by Energyguy
Thankyou !!
keep us posted :D
I'd like to know why he was asbent from the DVD box collection, The Strange World Of Northern Soul, whilst many other original stalwarts, basically slagged him off. Why wasn't he interviewed, so his side of the story could be told?
I think a lot of people would be interested as to some of his decisions, around music policy, later on his his career and if he now had regrets. (IE: Nightmare, Achievement & Motor City labels)
I'd also like to know if he's got a spare copy of Lama's Love On the Rocks he could mail me ;)
He was interviewed at length throughout Strangeworld, he's all over it in inimitable Levine style. You can ask him the other stuff if he comes on here.Originally Written by marmite7
I'm wondering what he's up to today and can we ever expect to hear him dj again ? Now that would be a night worth going to, a UK version of the Remember The Party events at the old Trocadero Transfer venue in San Francisco. One Night In Heaven !
Also, why the 12" version of his biggest disco era hit, Barbara Pennington's '24 Hours A Day' has never been reissued on cd ?
Ian mainly does production work for pop acts aswell as making films. I know he would love to Dj Hi NRG again but at the moment there has been no opportunity. Ian fell out badly with David Inches who co owns Heaven at the 21st anniversary party and now refuses to DJ there, I am hoping that this can be resolved as a " One night in Heaven" Hi nrg special would be terrific. As for the Barbra Pennington, I'vre no idea on that one..Originally Written by Pizzazz
Hopefully the man himself can fill us in on that Pennington question.
I did wonder why Ian's name wasn't on the list of djs for Heaven's 25th anniversary party last year. I still haven't made it to Heaven after all these years, isn't that awful ? Its on my travel short list though.
The Remember The Party events in San Francisco are wonderful, i'm going to the next one on October 9th - can't wait ! It would be great to see a similar event in the UK and Ian would be the perfect dj.
As I said above , Ian fell out badly with David Inches co owner of Heaven , which is why he wasn't involved in the 25th anniversary night. I'm also going to San Fran for the " remember the Party event", can't wait!!Originally Written by Pizzazz
straight acting,
Thanks for offering to contact Ian Levine. I would love it if Ian could provide us with a timeline / outline of his life and career as some in the States including myself are not fully aware of the scope of his involvement with Disco and Hi-NRG. In addition it would be nice to know what he considers to be his top twenty songs and any tidbits of insider info he may have. Thanks again.
I'm gonna do what I can to convince ian to join us for a session on here, I can't promise anything thoughOriginally Written by Bernie
We appreciate that matey - Good luck !Originally Written by straight acting
Barbara Pennington 24 Hours A Day has just been out on the Alnmighty We Love Disco CD (although mixed) and I know that Ian Levine mixed a Donna Summer megamix for the Discomania CD that came out last year.
toto
I'd love to know what Ian Levine is up to as well. The last thing I can think of off the top of my head that he's done was that Hi-NRG remix of Petula Clark's "Downtown" that came out around 1999/2000.
Is there any more recent stuff he's done? I wasn't even aware of the Donna Summer megamix totoman mentions.
During the 90s Ian was very busy producing for bands like TAKE THAT, BAD BOYS INC, THE PASADENAS... He recently produced the steve brookstein album that went to number 1 in the UK album charts...Originally Written by gunbuck
I have a fair amount of the 90s boyband stuff Levine did but I didn't know he'd produced the Steve Brookstein album. Do you know if there are there any Hi-NRG or Northern Soul tracks on the album? I've heard one Northern Soul-style track called "Wrong Side Of Town" by The Four Vandals with Brookstein on lead vocal that I really likedOriginally Written by Energyguy
I don`t know much about the Brookstein album but if you have a look on HMV or Amazon I am sure you will find track listings..Originally Written by gunbuck
I loved the Four vandals, and the furore and outrage in caused on the northern soul scene. :lol:Originally Written by Energyguy
what's the story on that? was there some kind of scandal involving the song?Originally Written by straight acting
strangely neither amazon.com or amazon.co.uk had sound samples of the Steve Brookstein album. HMV did though unfortunately their site kept making my browser freeze up but from the tracks I was able to sample it sounded like the album is pretty much all ballads.
The album is mostly ballads/covers but has had some positive reviews and seemed to sell quite wellOriginally Written by gunbuck

Scandal Where have you been??
[quote="straight acting"][quote="Energyguy"]I like a lot of the Northern Soul tracks I've heard but I don't really follow the Norther Soul scene that closely to be honest. I only know "Wrong Side Of Town" because of Steve Brookstein actually. Why did it cause an outrage? Because he went on to win X-Factor?Originally Written by gunbuck
Hi folks, first post on this forum so here goes nothing.
Four Vandals, a great track, but the uproar around this track was based on a handfull of 7'' records being sold to several top northern soul dj's, as being original/new discovery, and paying the northern soul type over the top price for them. But after a short while another top northern dj/collector discoverd that the font on the record label was modern, and not posssible for 60's printing. Also added to this Ian had played the track on a soul radio show, saying nothing about his invovment. So when it was disscoverd that he had made the track, most northern fans/collectors/djs felt that a deception had happend  . It is still a hot topic for disscution on northern forums.
Hope that short history of the Four Vandals helps.![]()
