Hi Y'all
I've seen on a couple of sites a re-issue of Change 'The glow of love' with the running time of 8mins 21. This seem to be an official re-issue and not a bootie. Was there ever a more extended version of this track, or do people think it might have been a missprint? Would love to know, can't remember which sites I saw it on, as I found them by accident.
Also I remember years ago seeing an American promo of Gregg Diamonds Luth sung 'Hot Butterfly' with two different longer versions on each side ( I wish I had bought it, foolish foolish boy). However I have never come across anybody who knows of this and all re-issues are usually the normal version. I'm beginning to think I must have imagined it, but I absolutely know I didn't.
Anybody got it?

Hi ZEF,
Check out Virgin records. There is a Double CD called 'The original soul selection' Cat no; OSEL004.
It has a 7.54 version of 'Hot butterfly' on it. Plus some other fab tracks!!
I've checked my CD album of the Change album and that runs around 6.14 ish. I haven't seen a longer version on CD in the UK. I have the US cd 'Best of' but that has the short version on it.
Cheers! I knew I could count on you guys. The re-issue of The 'Glow of love' looks the same as the promo posted on this site. Has anybody heard this longer version to know what the extended bits are?
I shall also check out the CD with one of those Hot butterfly mixes. The promo that I originally saw did have an 8+min version & a 7+min version, so thats those. It's funny because it was around the mid/late 80's that I saw it, about the time that HB was re-issued in the UK on the back of the Rare Groove thing. It was only a fiver and even though I thought this was something special, I was a poor student and let it go. Wish I had'nt, but glad my memory wasn't playing tricks on me.

Thanks again.
Just ordered the Gregg Diamond from Amazon, then read the review on the quality. Oh well better then nothing (I hope)
I am most interested to find out about the Change though, maybe I will just have to buy the repress and see.
great Italian-produced disco funk band
Glow of Love is ok, but for me the best tune is "Hold Tight" off of their second lp :icon_cool:
There was fog on the road...........
DJ Dan "Pooch" Pucciarelli
every track on the first LP is brilliant!
I would say so is on the second and third
their first lp got more promo, and due to decline of disco in US/UK as the 80's progressed their other lp's got less. Also Glow of Love gets more promo even today due to Vandross's subsequent success. Though things did go downhill after the Italian producers left the project
There's a 1999 remix of The Glow of Love, credited to Luther Vandross rather than Change, which is even longer, at 8:36, though it's nothing like the original and not really my cup of tea.
It's hard to imagine anyone other than Luther singing Glow Of Love, but this version by Full Flava featuring Donna Gardier on vocals, grows on you
The extended promo mix has extra vocal ad libs right throughout the song as well as instrumentation
I agree with this. I wasn't that familiar with the second or third albums until I picked up the "best of" compilation a few years ago. The music from the second and third albums has a very eighties-style sound (it seems less like disco to me).
Nothing beats The Glow of Love.
Bernie: I'm sure you're aware of Unidiscs' 3 song "12 Inch Classics on CD" (catalogue number SP 5-1570) with a wonderful 8:21 version of the Diamond/Vandross "Hot Butterfly". There's an equally good extended (7:13) version of "Risky Changes" and the third selection is "Chains" (6:43). The sound on all 3 is awesome, but "Butterfly" doesn't sound like a remix in the true sense of the word...instead it sounds like a couple of the instrumental sections were repeated just to extend it, and a couple of Vandross' vocal lines sound different than on the original album version. And I did indeed see the 8 minute 12 inch version of "Glow of Love" once and didn't buy it, probably because it either was in bad shape or overpriced. By the way, "Glow" has been sampled 4 times that I'm aware of...by Janet Jackson, Aretha Franklin, R. Kelley and the group Zhane. As for Change, their first 2 albums are among my absolute favorites, but after that, they started using outside writers and musicians, and in my opinion the quality of their music started to go downhill. And I've always considered "The Best of Change" to be total crap and I only bought it because I figured it would go out of print quickly. It seems to represent only the taste of the guy who assembled it, and why he included tracks from the group's crappy last 2 albums I'll never understand.
Yes I agree, I think overall after the first two lp's the songs became more funky, and more ballads too (though some of those ballads were fantastic).
what about the fourth lp "This is your time" from 1983? There is a song "Magical Night" on it, imo fantastic disco track with female lead.
and on the third lp "Sharing your love" 82 there is a song "You are my number 1" with male lead, great disco song, no worse than Glow of Love
I also agree that one can not judge this band just by best of collections.
I think the original Italian producers left after the fourth. After that Jam/Lewis came, I never liked their stuff much

Find them and destroy them!
Great thanks for that info! However before I go seeking this (it's always quite expensive so cant just risk it) can anyone else verify this? I only ask because nothing else from that LP or 'Miracles' for that matter had extended versions on 12" that were different from the LP versions.
"You can dance forever if you want to"
good slower jam..
here is another one with James Robinson on vocals from third lp 1982, imo a very good tune

Thanks again for this info..You were so right about that Shamir! And I'm so happy now even though I was seeking extra verification (just assurance really).
That 8 minute promo only version of the Glow of Love with the extra adlibs etc..has ben released on CD along with some of Changes' later remixes/megamixes.......and unreleased tracks!! Got mine from Amazon Germany but I think its released in the UK in January.

"You can dance forever if you want to"
Since we are discussing CHANGE here,
When I first bought the 12" Import of "PARADISE" from UK in 1981 it sounded like this:
https://rcpt.yousendit.com/786950378/9771d471b7822830ddf311563c2eb89c
A few months later I was serviced with a 12" from Atlantic US that sounded like this:
https://rcpt.yousendit.com/786951096/9c04a8aa7b1cde2e4b6b0ebf5f5ba29d
Now I wouldn't call it an out & out remix,
but it is different. The bass is kicked up in the US mix and some keyboards are discarded.
Also the vocals during the choruses are different.
I was wondering if anybody else noticed, cared, or liked one better than the other.
