Nick, did you try the Colony on 5oth?
Hi All,
My better half is a keyboardist and wants me to ask have any of you seen our disco classics in sheet music format? I've tried searching by some of the bigger artists (Costandinos, Midney, Barry White, etc.) but have come up blank. If you know of any place out there that carries this, doesn't matter if it's single artist a compilation book, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

I would have suggest Colony, just off Times Square if I remember correctly. My youngest sister is a big Tom Waits fan and I found her some sheet music there.

Thank you both. I haven't been there in years. Are they still open at all hours in the morning? I remember shopping there at midnight because I had to have some new music for my night at The Anvil. DJ's --- how crazy are we?

Speaking of crazy, remember the old Discomat in Times Square? That big old barn on Broadway, where you'd walk in at 3:00 in the morning and see Mick Jagger buying 12-inches (RECORDS....twelve-inch RECORDS). Was that place open 24 hours a day?
But what was that all night vinyl store nearby which had a huge amiable bald man presiding over the counter and the decks? This was the person who was supposed to have been a living encyclopedia of disco breaks. I wonder where he is now. Next to this store a man in a dirty blue shirt kept repeating, endlessly: SHOWTIME! SHOWTIME!, slapping his palm with flyers of some kind and trying to hustle people into a strip joint. And can you recall the thin, horribly leering and grinning grandma type in overalls doing the same at the door of The Melody Burlesque or something like that. Look at Times Square and 42 st. now and weep. It's all gone, the marquees advertising exploitation and porn. Is the scent of prezels there anymore either I wonder. This lack of true N.Y. ambiance is why I haven't been able to return to the city, the fabulous playground of my wasted youth, anymore. Sigh.
Jussi, I remember that store south of DiscoMat (though I can't remember the name). Before I joined IDRC, I'd go there for more obscure items and imports, everything from Burundi beats (quite a fad in the UK at that time) to the uncensored imports such as Cerrone's "Love In C Minor, Sheila and B.Devotion's "Love Me Baby", and "Quartz" by Quartz. Though the Quartz and Cerrone domestic cover art were censored for content, Sheila's cover seems to have been censored/altered for US distribution because she was dancing in the middle of B. Devotion! Years later, I am still trying to figure out what Casablance found objectionable about this....obviously Carrere wasn't bothered by it. This from the company that distributed the infamous 1st Love and Kisses cover (US feminists REALLY loved that cover......NOT!)

Yeah, the edited the dialogue from the Love And Kisses album, but not the sleeve... makes no sense to me either. And the cover *so does not* suit the album, which is majestic, grand, and beautiful... such a contrast to the violent and tasteless sleeve. You could make some artistic arguement for the nudity on How Much, How Much I Love You and You Must Be Love, but that just doesn't cut it for what has gone on to be known as the "rape album".
Now, the Euro versions of Love In C Minor... *that* suits the album![]()

Ah, glad you brought up the Burundi beats! The one I have been spinning a lot is Burundi Stephenson Black's Burundi Black as it has a tricky drum&bass style rhythm very suited to hipsters who want to impress with their "artistic" jamiroquesque dance moves-cum-poses. Add to that Malcom Mclaren's Zulu's on The Timebomb and they really love you.
