    Flashlight On A Disco Night

    *****

OK guys ..... I've got two pressings of Rofo's "FLASHLIGHT ON A DISCO NIGHT" ( on JDC and on BMC )... a song I think highly of .... one of the best done Patrick Cowley sounding songs ..... that's not by Patrick Cowley!!! :D

Curious as to what category it falls under and any other info ....?

I would say that this is a track that crosses a few genres...it's not really Hi-NRG, more Euro-disco really...it's fab though! :D

    I've got these versions:
Flashlight On A Disco Night (12") BMC Records
Flashlight On A Disco Night (12") JDC Records INC.

and three to go ( if different )?? .....

Flashlight On A Disco Night (12") Epic
Flashlight On A Disco Night (12") Zanza Records (Italy) *
Flashlight On A Disco Night (Ben Liebrand Remix) (12") BMC Records

    * I believe this tune originates out of Italy ..... is that the only quantifier when labeling something as Italo Disco??

i am pretty sure it is produced by fonny de wulf.. does that sound italian to you?
i am pretty sure he is dutch or belgian. (or is it frank de wolf? is that the same person?)

but it goes with italo or new wave or eurobeat or canadian disco or high energy or house or whatever you want to play it with.. just like everything..

curious, why is there such an emphasis on genres and categories on this board? do you need key words for ebay or something?

it is good song, i like it.

"Pineapples" doesn't sound very Italian either :P yet there they are amongst the "P" Italo disco artists !

    List of Italo Disco artists

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

    N
Nathalie - My Love Won't Let You Down (from Belgium)
Nick Straker Band - Straight Ahead (from UK)
Nico Band - Let It Show
Night Society - Hold Me Tight
    Novecento - The Only One
    [edit]
    O
One System - Life is Very Short
    [edit]
    P
Patty Ryan - Stay with Me Tonight (from Germany)
    Paul Crazy - Believe Me
Peter Jacques Band - Fly with the Wind
Plastic Bertrand - Tout Petit la Plančte (from Belgium)
    Pineapples - Come On Closer
Primadonna - Wanna Give You My Heat
Proxyon - Beyond the Future (From the Netherlands)

No Rofo though .... but plenty of other artists from other parts of the world besides Italy . If the music is not strictly of Italian origin ....and if it gets mixed with all other types of disco when played in clubs .... I'm not sure why the sub group either ! :)

Fonny De Wulf was (is ) based in Belgium and wrote/produced for Samantha Gilles.

He also produced Bianca - One More Time & Midnight Lover. (Plus others I need to go check) Quite a prolific hi-nrg "knob twiddler" back in the early - mid 80's.

I can't see where he was involved with 1000 OHM (Van Bogaert & Van Herck), although he did of course do Michael Bow's "Love & Devotion".

On this site they refer to this style as The Dutch School:

    Euroflash » Euro Disco
"Because there's music in the air."

Re: Flashlight On A Disco Night

I hadn't listened to Flashlight for about 15 or 20 years so played it tonight. It sounds exactly like Mike Mareen's Love Spy and I couldn't believe I had forgotten all about it.
More like Bobby O than Patrick Cowley I would say.
