What song has the best conga/timbale/percussion solo?

Let's touch an item that's rare; the best bong/timbale/percussion solo in a song!

Whether it's congas/timbale/percussion, disco/funk/soul songs had a solo that's unbelivable. Let's hear some of your favorite percussion solo songs!

    Let's try these!

Don't Let Go - France Joli
    Tell Everybody - Herbie Hancock
Let Your Body Run - Francine Simone

I guess I had to dig into one of my mixes when I was on KTU 103.5 Joe Causi's Studio 54 Clubhouse for a highlight or two.

    Just to name a few!

Jimmy Castor Bunch - E-Man Boogie
A little 'safe' but I like it.
T Connection - Do What You Wanna Do
has to be the yardstick by which most others are judged.

Ahh, there are so many :D But I always thought the breakdown on "Scorpio" by Dennis Coffey was supreme, I used to play this over and over back then, and Vickie Sue's "Turn the beat around" is also great.

    Now, we're talking!

Scorpio - Dennis Coffey was one of my favorite's that I used to play as a 45 RPM/7". Played it so much that I had to clean it with alcohol (remember those days?) Or, when you had no mixer, you'd bring the needle quickly back to the spot to self mix it.

What about Taurus - Dennis Coffey?

    Hmmm....

    Let's here some more, breakdowns.........

This thread will be the bomb!

Hey, It's Just Begun - Jimmy Castor......

    Out of Leftfield

I figured that I would throw a nice, percussion breakdown from an LP right, back at you!

    What about?

    Evita - Boris Midley (Production)

The percussion solos on that LP were hot!

    Hmmm....

Come on folks, dig hard into your crates!!

    .....
Us original B Boys :D ONLY played the breakdown, 'cos the rest of it was just about so-so.

If we're going that far back and more, how about Billy Preston and Billy's Bag? A Bongo fest.

Or how about Santana's original Jingo Lo Ba that went into???? Another powerful percussion breakdown.

    The Solo Breakdown

Respect to all the "B-Boys" out there who DJ'd at the block parties!

What about "Dance To The Drummer's Beat - Herman Kelly & Life" T.K. Disco Version?

    The Anthem of All Anthems!

    What about Apache?

Oh My God! Let's talk about some more, breakdown solos on the percussion tip!

    ...... love to hear percussion:

    Take any T-Connection

    mix in with these :

    "HEAVY VIBES " --Salsoul Orch.
    "PIPELINE " -- Bruce Johnston
"SING SING SING " - Charlie Calello Orch.
    "FIRE " -- Ohio Players

add in some Bohannon -- such as "DANCE YOUR ASS OFF"

and cap it off with the ultimate conga experience :
    "CALYPSO BREAKDOWN" -- Ralph McDonald

    ..... :D ....

    Memories folks...

Lots of them with those songs....

After Dark - Pattie Brooks had a very, light breakdown, yet long enough for me to enjoy. What about Joe Thomas - Plato's Retreat? The Bull - The Mike Theodore Orchestra

I was thinking of Pattie Brooks "After dark"
    and Cellophane "Lets believe"
    Edwin Starr "Contact"

Dj Al Kent spinned a very nice bootleg of this song when he came at Paris

    Long time no hear folks!

To continue from a month ago, If There's Love - Amant with an excellent, percussion break. The LP version of If There's Love was longer than the 12".

A song that has heavenly percussion on it and that's played daily by moi the last days:

Samba Soul: "Samba Soul" a Disco-remake of "Mas Que Nada".
    Mike Theodore Orchestra: "The Bull"

And maybe not for this topic: Cerrone's "Rocket In The Pocket", play that one loud on a good stereosystem

Do What You Wanna Do definitely is the one that comes to mind when thinking of disco grooves with timbale breakdowns.

I can only think of a few examples, most of which lean more to funk:

    'Miami Heatwave' by Seventh Avenue
'All Time Loser' by Barbara Pennington
'Sugarhill Groove' by The Sugarhill Gang (courtesy of Tito Puente)
'Ritual' LP by Nico Gomez - full of breaks and bad ass latin funk grooves. Lots of timbales.

I think the timbale/conga solo on 12" live version of The Bottle - Gil Scott Heron is the best - I do like the T-Connection - Do What You Wanna Do as well

Do What You Wanna Do - T-Connection (Excellent)

Honorable Mention - At Midnight and Saturday Night by T-Connection

Sugarhill Groove - The Sugarhill Gang was a choice out of leftfield that I truly loved. Tito Puente's solo was classic!

    I got a couple more:

Super Duper Super Man by Bunny Sigler (Let It Snow LP)
I can't remember if either Super Sporm or Saturday Night Move Ease (or both) by Captain Sky has the timbales breakdowns. They're both on the same side of the Adv of Cptn Sky LP.
