El Coco, Lorraine Johnson and Thelma Houston CD reissues

In case anyone's interested.. I was checking for some upcoming reissues and it appears these three titles will be reissued on the 16th (according to hmv.co.jp) on CD by P-Vine in Japan:

El Coco - Let's Get It Together hmv.co.jp
Lorraine Johnson - The More You Want hmv.co.jp
Thelma Houston - Ride To The Rainbow hmv.co.jp

AFAIK the first time an El Coco album has been reissued on CD in it's entirety.. I believe "The More You Want" was Lorraine's first album for Prelude (the one with her real picture on the cover hehe), which I've heard is more soulful than her second.. All the tracks from that one ("Learning To Dance All Over Again") are on the CD as well.. It was prev. issued on CD with the same tracklist some 10 years ago, but I think that one's long out of print though.. I've never heard the Thelma Houston album, but judging from the tracklist, it looks interesting :)

Does the El Coco album contain "Cocomotion"? If not, then the only place I have found that song is on "The Best Disco In Town: 38 Classic Disco Hits" (1994, Hippo).

I'm a little curious about "Cocomotion" as well, specifically track length. :D
It would also be nice if they issued a cd of Thelma Houston's Qualifying Heat. This is a really nice album.

COCOMOTION (1977) is on their follow-up release to LET'S GET IT TOGETHER (1976). It seems unbelievable that this entire album is being release on CD.

Started with BRAZIL in 1975, LET'S GET IT TOGETHER (1976), along with COCOMOTION (1977) and DANCING IN PARADISE (1978) are the best albums EL COCO recorded... plus the non-album 12" singles LOVE EXCITER and the remixed COCOMOTION 1979 (which isn't as good as the original).

The songs on LET'S GET IT TOGETHER are:

    1 - JUST BE YOU
    2 - QUIET VILLAGE
    3 - LET'S GET IT TOGETHER
    4 - CHAKA MY LOVE
    5 - MISTER LUCKY

    1 - LOVE VACCINE
    2 - UNDER CONTRUCTION
    3 - LOVE VIBRATIONS
    4 - FAIT LE CHAT
5 - PUT ON YOUR JEANS
    6 - GIMME SOME

While songs like JUST BE YOU, QUIET VILLAGE, LET'S GET IT TOGETHER, CHAKA MY LOVE, MR. LUCKY, LOVE VACCINE, FAIT LE CHAT and GIMME SOME represent the early disco sound, others like UNDER CONSTRUCTION, PUT ON YOUR JEANS and LOVE VIBRATIONS are still soul music.

From this album 2 singles were taken:

1 - LET'S GET IT TOGETHER (12' remix) / FAIT LE CHAT (DO THE CAT 12" remix)

2- JUST BE YOU (12" remix) / PUT ON YOUR JEANS (12" remix)

While the 2nd single is not as famous as Let's Get It Together, it is just as good. I wish the 4 remixed songs were included on the japanese CD release as bonus.

I hope they reissue some of the other El Coco albums on CD.. I got the Cocomotion album a few months back, and I absolutely love it!

Thelma's Qualifying Heat was a really great album too, I believe Jam & Lewis were pretty prominent on that one too.. (wish I had the actual album to check the credits)

I think what set Rinder & Lewis apart from other disco producers is their unusual chord sequences plus keyboard sounds.

    Hey neon,
I'm looking at my worn Qualifying Heat album now. Jam & Lewis figured prominently on all the side one cuts. This means song:
1 - (I Guess) It Must Be Love
2 - You Used To Hold Me So Tight
    3 - Fantasy and Heartbreak
4 - I'd Rather Spend A Bad Time With You Than Spend the Good Times With Someone New

Side 2 had a mix of different producers.

    El Coco freak here

Yippee, September 16th is the day I arrive in Japan for 10 days. I will pick it up and review it when I return.

I think it is tragic the full version of "Cocomotion" has apparently not ever been on legitimate CD. The version on "the AVI Collection" omits the ending.

    Paulo, that's "Choka My Love."

I saw some expensive Japanese CDs of Rufus featuring Choka Khan!

Thanks for the producer info Paul :) Love all those tracks!

Sorry for the bump on this thread, but I completely missed your reply, until I checked back..

Speaking of that album, I love the recent Javine feat. Richard X remake of "You Used To Hold Me So Tight," just as good as the original IMO..

Too bad they skipped over Mondo Disco. That's a good LP. I hope if El Coco's Lets Get It Together does well, they'll put out more AVI LPs.
