OK - You Took A Wrong Turn................

missed the clubs with hi-nrg...........in fact hi-nrg was never invented!

So............which route would you have taken?

Pennies & The Jacquard Club were playing good sounds, cos as we know straight clubs REFUSED to play "gay records" anyway and I was quite happy dancing to:

Shannon - Let The Music Play
Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Elses Guy (Boy, that woman can sing)
    Monyaka - Go Deh Yaka
    Hot Streak - Body Work
    Brothers Johnson - Stomp
Hamilton Bohannon - Lets Start The Dance (I-IV)!!! ;)
    Cameo - Word Up

    etc etc

Interesting question, I started with Northern Soul in 76 rapidly followed Levine and Curtis into Disco and jazz funk, and was attending jazz funk gigs up to 85 as well as Heaven, Bangs etc. I also attended rock and pop concerts and when in NY the Saint and paradise garage. Basically I loved to dance and have a good time so would go wherever the good times were. Although I am straight I loved HI NRg and saw it as the next step after the supposed death of disco. Without it though there was enough black dance music coming out of America to keep me happy, and although the northern scene was on its knees through the early 80's the odd gem like Suspicion by the Originals popped up and then there was he scooter runs also, so plenty to do.

    Nice selection :)

I loved that blissed out sound you got from some of the early Prelude releases.

Unique - What I Got Is What You Need
Raw Silk - Just In Time (Just In Time & Space Dub) great b side.
Raw Silk - Do It To The Music

plus D Train - You're The One For Me & Music

The Goddess herself - Sharon Redd

aswell as 4th & Broadway tracks. Great label.

    George Kranz
    Jocelyn Brown
    Loveride
    Gayle Adams
    Skipworth & Turner

Tabu? SOS Band, Cherelle. Anyone remember The SOS Band's hi-nrg tune - No Lies? Quite a departure for them.

These weren't really early Prelude marmy old mate. I'd actually consider them late Prelude. Early Prelude I would class as such as Mastermind, Musique & Sine from '77/'78. Then there's mid-period Prelude which would be such as Theo Vaness, Kumano & Hi Gloss from '79/'80/'81. Unique & D Train were quite late at '82/'83.

but still early surely, in comparison to others!

    Mind you, it's all relevant.
