    Herb Alpert trivia

''Can't you get up any faster? When "Rise" was released, most European 12" singles were recorded at 45 rpm. Because those wacky Euro-DJs didn't notice the speed difference, they played the larger disks at 33 rpm, and "Rise" topped the European charts at the wrong speed."

Marcio, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

The writer of this piece has got everything ass about face.

It was US Disco DJs who played this at 45 rpm when in fact all the 12" records were pressed at 33 rpm. It was too slow for them (at 101 BPM) and so the extra tweek made it more danceable to the speed freaks (at 137 BPM).

If we'd slowed it down from 45 rpm to 33 rpm, people would have been dancing to a track that registered a whopping 74 BPM......I DON'T THINK SO.

LOL. If you play Kylie's 'I should be so lucky' 12" at 33rpm it sounds like Rick Astley!

Has anyone ever noticed that Herb Alpert's "Highway 101" is a sped-up version of "A taste of honey". "Highway 101" is divided into an undercurrent of fast triplets. The main blueprints and motifs of the track were rooted in the '60's hit.

If you have the Billboard Book of Number One Hits, then the story on "Rise" by Herb Alpert will answer your question. It's really an interesting article; when you read you may be surprised that he did a disco version of some of his 1960s hits. As far as I know, none of them have every been released.
