    LOCAL HI-NRG CHARTS

As a matter of interest....Did any of you ever come across regional HI-NRG charts proper to your city/area ??
Les Cokell (Manchester DJ) always compiled a Manchester HI-NRG chart based on the dancefloor reaction to the stuff he played at ROCKIES & CRUZ 101. You could pick copies of these charts up every week in his record shop... You could also obtain a North West HI-NRG chart from FLAMINGO`S nightclub in blackpool...

Nothing like that in Norwich mate :(

As I've already mentioned, Simon (the DJ), appeared to play what he liked, rather than be influenced by charts of any kind. And good for him - cos it sure broadened everyone's horizons.

I remember him playing Kylie - I Should Be So Lucky, then promptly saying that was the one & only time. YAY ;)

When I worked at Our Price Worthing, we used to have a 12" singles sellers chart which more often than not had at least 8 Hinrg tracks in. I remember that we sold shed loads of 'Male Stripper' in the summer of 86 bnefore it was deleted. When re-released it went national but by that time we had already sold over 1000 copies!!!

I remember OUR PRICE in Manchester had its own HI-NRG section and a weekly top 10 HI- NRG chart displayed on the wall - it was usually DEAD OR ALIVE/LIME/DIVINE /PWL stuff

    Hi Neil,
We didn't deal with the importers at the time so we only sold the stuff on UK release.
When I moved to HMV it was easier to get stuff but as i have said before, only the newer stuff. All the Gay Anthem CDs we in our best sellers for ages.

    Hi Dave
Hope you enjoying the weekend !
I do remember that HMV/OUR PRICE had very little import HI-NRG releases - it tended to be UK released stuff only i.e. RECORD SHACK/PASSION/NIGHTMARE etc....

I remember Moz morris had an Hi-nrg chart in Hmv records in blackpool,he worked in there for a time, had to be quick of the mark tho to snap up the goodies...

He then opened his own shop in the flamingo nite club and had his own chart based on what was hot on the dancefloor in the club..

He used to make visits to the states and would always bring a suitcase ful of deleted goodies back with him,and remember on 1 occasion when he brought me a few back..pepermint-light a light was the one i went wild for when he handed it over, been hunting hihg and low foe a good while..well done moz:icon_lol::icon_lol:
