Record Mirror - Boys Town Charts / Hi-Nrg

Do I understand that there's a few of you out there with large collections of old Record Mirrors?

    If so......................................

how's about you take it turns to post the Top 20 from different months / years?

Just so we poor Record Mirror-less plebs can see what was about and perhaps have our grey matter jogged!

I'm sure there's loads of stuff I've forgotten about (and my wants list is rather tiny)

You'd be loved forever!! (Well, until Colin Farrell comes knocking at me door at least) :P

I have the SHY ROSE 12" & the MIQUEL BROWN LP - I love that SHY ROSE track - found it last year in a second hand record shop. I have not heard the CAFE SOCIETY track.

Marmite 7, you need to flip Cafe Society's Relight my fire, cos the best track is the B side So much in love.

For me, Dan Hartman's original version of 'Relight My Fire' was such disco perfection that no other version comes near to it.

I agree Sandra...an all time classic, and not even the sight of Robbie William's nipples on TOTP made Take That's version any better...although Dame Lulu is, of course, fab! :D

No comment Neil! I s'pose Joey Negro's production was good but so 90s & therefore not at all glamorous or exciting.

Yes Sandra, its one of thos erecords that is just about perfect and therefore it makes covering it pointless.

Aha - but were they trying to better the original, or just doing their own interpretation?

Couldn't the same be said for (what seems like) half of the hi-nrg tunes you've danced to and still love?

    Flirtations - Earthquake
    Croisette - Landslide
Angie Gold - Third Finger Left Hand
Kofi & The Lovetones - Countdown
Velvette - Nothing's Worse Than Being Alone & Gotta Have Your Love
    Evelyn Thomas - Reflections
    Jamie Dean - Love Child
Deborah Washington - Nothing But Heartaches
Cafe Society - Somebody To Love
    American Fade - I'm Alive

and another record that couldn't bettered - Harold Melvin having done the original & best version.

Jeanie Tracy - Don't Leave Me This Way.

Doesn't make them NOT worth listening to! (Well, cept Reflections - perhaps) ;)

Get the Cafe Society version of Relight My Fire and make your own mind up Neil. (And try the B side)

No, some of the tunes you list above are great and I've yet to hear a great version of relight my fire other than the Dan Hartman. Cover versions can be fantastic and I see the point you are making. BTW I prefer the Thelma Houston version of "Don't leave me" :o

Thelma`s version is great but Jeanie tracy`s version will always be my favourite.
