Alejandro e-mailed me looking for the title & artist (female) of the following slow song:

    Lyric samples:

"You are telling me that you are walking out the door and...."

"One fine day you'll be surprised when you realize all the love I feel inside makes me oooh!!!"

"Make me understand you want to be, be my one and only man and I will give you all the loving that I can, so please don't go..."

    Sound familiar????

it's called "Please don't go" by Noemi,on a small NYC label(?), she performed this song many times in Miami Clubs around '84,'85, it was a great hit down here, she released another song later(?)but not with the same success. If you need any more info I can dig it out.

It may indeed be Nayobe's "Please Don't Go (a.k.a "No Te Vayas"). The 12" was released on Fever Records in 1987.

Yes, Boodikka you are right, it is Nayobe, I knew it was something similar to Noemi, there are several issues of this record including the Spanish version.

Hi Mix, you are right about the original release date of Nayobe's "Please Don't Go". It would have been closer to 1985 to coincide with the release of KRUSH GROOVE (she performs the song in the movie). Nayobe Gomez also provided the singing voice for Salma Hayek (the name..I said.....HER NAME....yummm!) in that atrocious 54 film.

this song was a 'Huge' hit in Miami and she performed several times at a club I was spinning at the time, this club closed in '85, , she must have made a fortune with repeated performaces, I can only compare her local popularity at the time to France Joly's.

Marky, as Mix said this was a major freestyle hit both in Miami and NY. It's considered by many to be the first real "breakout" freestyle song. Was freestyle just a regional, as opposed to national genre? Were freestyle acts popular on the West Coast in '85, or did it take off there later? Or did freestyle ever take off at all on the Left Coast?

    Alejandro,

I'm glad you found the song. I looked and I did recently buy this LP "Sheila AND B. Devotion" with "Spacer" on it, produced, written, arranged and conducted by Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers for the Chic Organization.

Interestingly enough, the lyrics for the songs are included and your lyrics match very well. Unfortunately, my receiver is in for repairs and I can't play records--so I can't listen.

What might have helped here is if we had known from the get-go the approximate year of release--1980, so it could have been narrowed down more before the guessing began.

Glad you found it. As Billie & I always say, "God bless the child that finds his own"...

    Now ya see folks...

What we've got here is, to quote a famous line from "Cool Hand Luke"..."a failure to communicate".

    Alejandro,

Of course, I know you DID NOT KNOW the artist and the song all the time.

I was only congratulating you on finding the song yourself. That's all.
