It's a good lineup of course but dare I say...a bit..predictable?! Maybe if there was a bit more of the more underground element that really made an impression, D.C. LaRue for example, then I quess people would arrive from all kinds of destinations. D.C's from New York I understand and still around. Next time around, have him and someone really glamorous like Amanda Lear from Paris. She'll probabaly only fly first class but then again, she's a legend. And where's Grace Jones? Show some flash and flair!:-)
Do the old disco artists still want to be associated with the music? They may have decided to move on.
D.C. LaRue's affiliation with the Dance Music Hall of Fame would've been displayed if indeed, he was interested! He has been seen in the village regularly and he seems disinterested in going back to those, Disco days. The list of people who'll be at the event on Monday night will be A-OK, trust me! If you can't make it to this year's event, try to come next year. Also, the Billboard Dance Music Summit 2005 would be a great networking tool for aspiring artists.Originally Written by JussiK

Could be because DC's contributions were only mildly successful ( And hey I like them .....here and there ...)

I thought of DC cause I read from somewhere that he was surprised people still remembered and liked his tracks. Ca-The-Drals has of course been re-issued a number of times so it's kinda classic that tune or what. Strange he's not interested anymore - maybe he hasn't aged too well? I still think Grace should be carried to galas such as this N.Y. affair like she used to, by slave boys dressed in leopard skin loincloths because she's still amazing. But Gloria Gaynor, doesn't she whenever she gets the change make statements like "I never really liked disco, those years were not good for me, disco went into some very dark places, that was music for lonely people who did not know the meaning of love" etc...?

Jussik.... I've never heard this about Gloria Gaynor before ?? First Donna .... now Gloria ...... what's up with these b*****s biting the hands that feed them.
I frankly don't get it .
How confident are you about your source ? I prefer it not to be true ....

Her own words as recorded to the audio cd for the disco exhibit "Disco - a decade of saturday nights", plus several other interviews like that of the French magazine Numero. In one sentence, she praises the uplifting qualities of "I Will Survive" and right in the next, she insists disco was music for lonely disillusioned people. Perhaps she sees herself not only as a "serious" recording artist but also as a ray of hope of the said sad loners, US :D ?
If anyone from the board was at the event I'd love to hear your feedback. All's I can say is WOW.
Highlights for me:
The Trammps getting caught up in the fun and getting on Stage to join Fonzi Thornton, Freddie Jackson and Byron Stingley doing "Disco Inferno". Fonzi, Freddie and Byron were doing their tribute and straight out of the audience the Trammps stormed the stage and blew the roof off the place.
Gloria doing "I Will Survive" was fantastic.
Bunny Sigler, Sharon Paige and the Bluenotes doing the Gamble & Huff tribute.
and so many more....
Can't wait to review the video.

What I liked about the Trammps coming out from the stage to join on to their hit "Disco Inferno" as if it was the 12" version at its fullest! "Say Oww"! Bunny "By The Way You Dance" Sigler was exciting and sounded just like he did in the seventies. I can't wait until next year!!!!!
I would loved to have gone to this event as I was actually in NYC that night but I thought that the tickets were $300 ( a tad too pricey pour moi, the porn business isn't what it was! ) & was dismayed to just read that there were 'balcony' tickets for $100! I don't generally like live music but I woulda loved to be there with all those legends in the house. Oh bugger! :( (I actually spent the evening at 2 very divey & (it has to be said) very dull bars on the Upper West Side - never again! :-? )
Could have gotten anyone from this board in at a special price on the floor ($190) as we respect the community you guys have built here. Next year be sure to get in early and ask me about the discount. ;)
