Sounds like a slowed-down version of Saint Tropez's 'La Symphonie Africaine'.

"African symphony" / "La symphony africaine" was composed by Van McCoy, according to allmusic.com. It first appeared on a Henry Mancini LP in 1975, and Van McCoy's "The real McCoy" LP in 1976.

Therefore, I'm guessing that your version (for it is definitely this song) is either the Mancini version or the McCoy version. Don't know which, though!

    I agree but

VG++/VG++ (Nonstandard rating) Rare one-sided promo in excellent condition. original copy of Henry Mancini 12"-African Symphony 4.35-RCA(us 1975). RCA MFTS $71.30 BUY Info...

Ouch $71.30 - Not for this track. Love it very majestic and would rock the hell out of a dance floor but not at this price

And actually the Van McCoy track was released first-- at the end of 1974. Mancini's was a cover--but reputed to be the definitive version. I don't have the Mancini 12" version--only the "Symphonic Soul" lp/cd version --which isn't as good. Supposedly.

It's better in that the 12" contains several percussive breaks including the fade out where the lp has just the one in the early part of the song.

I have both now in MP3 formats. The expensive promo is not worth the money. Hey I never mixed on a CD Player device and Im wondering something. If you download a 320K perfect sounding MP3 to a CD and then mixed it on a CD mixer on a professional sounding system can you tell the difference. Im a vinyl record man. Also how hard is it to master the new (grin) CD players and what would someone recommend.

    Hi jbandes,

You might get a better response to the second half of your post if you moved it to the DJs TOOLS OF THE TRADE... forum. Mixing with CDs and MP3s has also been discussed in that forum.

    ****

The album is classic Van McCoy and worth having for other reasons too.... the instrumental version of "TO EACH HIS OWN " ..... the hustle tune "JET SETTING " ....and for one of those light and breezy yet tilting toward the funky ( Van McCoy at his funkiest??? :D ) , "fun" disco songs : ..."PARTY " with the grin -making intro ...... "Get on down and pahrty...get on down and ..uh... pahrty ? .....Get on down.....oh , get on down and pahrty ..." (sounds better on vinyl/CD :D ) .....

    ****

also since Van McCoy composed "AFRICAN SYMPHONY " it's worth having his version

    as well ....

Also ...looking at the cover ....Van McCoy in a hillbillyish pose with a country straw like hat and a strand of straw sticking out of his mouth .. ...The album title and the picture are a play on the old TV show "The Real McCoys" ....but ... a successful image for portraying a dsico album ??? ..... somebody should have vetoed that one .....

Either go to mainpage of this forum or use the 'Jump To' option Bernie has below and select:

DISCO DJs TOOLS OF THE TRADES & TECHNIQUES

I guess the actual forum is VINYL RECORD CARE, AUDIO RESTORATION, MP3 & COMPUTERS. Sorry for the confusion
