    This kind of music...

    Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you could recommend some songs which are similar (in style, or just anything you think I'd like!) to the following songs:

    Don't Look Any Further - M People
Never Too Much - Luther Vandross
    Dancing Queen - Abba

You know...old but funky songs! ;-D Thanks!

    Welcome Wolphin!! :D

I don't think you'll find ABBA on too many "funk" lists.

Judging from your short list, it looks like you've got a lot to learn ... and lucky you !!! A whole ton of music awaits you ! :D

But first you can educate me ... never heard of M People ...

M People was (still is?) a UK act with a sound somewhere between house, jazz, and pop. They scored a big hit in '93 with a song called "Movin' On Up". Unlike a lot of material from that time, this track still holds up quite well today.

remicks: I know! Far too much music out there...and the 700 top disco songs is just far too long! Hehe! Well, from that extremely short list - would you recommend any songs similar to those which you might find passing by a disco? It's just that there were a bunch of these kind of songs on in a disco in Monte Carlo, and they were great, but I don't know what they're called - and I know that I'm being really naive by asking you to tell me what songs they were! ;) And thanks for the welcome!

About M People: Graham hit it bang on the head! Hehe! "Don't Look Any Further" is actually quite a good song...

Thanks .. I will seek out those tune by M People :)

    Wolphin .....
you are asking the impossible ....you are just going to HAVE to listen , listen , listen !! ........Again, lucky you !! 8) .
Music comes from within ..I'd suggest just starting with some basic disco collection CD's.... the clitche tunes are staples for good reasons ....."SHAME" .... "WE ARE FAMILY ".... "CONTACT" ..as soon as I name these someone else will say I'm all wet and will name three that are ten times better ..... :D :D .
There are also sites that will let you hear snippets and mixes ... go to those .... I am about to post an entry with one of those right now .....

For me the seeking the music is much of the fun .....

Hopefully you'll find much to your liking .... but be prepared ... to devise shelving to hold it all .... :D

A good way to start is to preview samples and snippets.
I would buy artists, producers, and sidemen who worked with the artists I already know and like. Many websites where you can purchase music or just browse use cookies that yield reccommendations about others buying habits.
For instance, you mentioned Luther Vandross's "Never too much". You might want to pick up Change's first album or Greatest hits which features Vandross as vocalist. He also worked with Cheryl Lynn and she cut some disco stuff too. Gregg Diamond's Bionic Boogie is the group where Vandross started.
    Good luck!

P.S. I have 14 bookshelves in my bedroom full of this stuff.

Also check out the stuff Vandross did along with Marcus Miller (as writer producer team) for Aretha Franklin and Cheryl Lynn in the early 80s

Thanks K-Bee, eddie, and remicks! I tried looking for a site which does what eddie said - collects previous cookies to see what song the people went to next, but I haven't managed to find one with "good" results! Hehe...stupid people

I'll buy a collection or two and flip through them, to see what I like. The first one I get will probably have to have a song I know and like in it, though! ;)

    Well, thanks again!!
