    Ok,
I don't know who knows Jaques entire story or who may have more info on him (maybe a picture even), but here is a link to check out. It says alot about his story and more into his mysterious murder.

If anyone knows anything else on him that this doesnt state (other than the poor discography only spanning his 80's stuff), please post it here.

I can't help you but we do have a member (who hasn't posted in quite some time), Maarten, whose life is "dedicated" to JFP. Maarten also maintains a website devoted to Jacques.

Does anyone here have it? I know he's posted it but it's not in my 'favorites' list. :???:

Unfortunately, the page is currently in limbo... Geocities (or whoever the freebie host was) kept taking it down.

That sucks!!! Would anyone have a picture of JFP? This is a mystery as you would read on the link i left at the begining of the thread. Was there any picture anywhere of this man? Or was this all because of what he was involved in that there is no pic?

    Where to start...

First of all, yes I used to have a site devoted to the works of JFP. As Nicky says, Geocities kept taking it down, saying I was running a commercial site (HUH?). After fighting that about 5 times, and winning each time, it happened again and I gave up.

I kept copies of all my pages on my computer and I need to find a new home. Unfortunately, my work on World Cup 2002 kept me too busy to do any work on this.

I know Patrik Anderson's website well, we used to share/link a lot of information. I have a whole bunch of JFP links. If you are interested, email me.

Despite that, and years of research, I have never found a picture of the man. All of his projects were obviously studio projects, and there were plenty of photo's of actual front artists or just models posing as 'the band'. I have made a spreadsheet with all musicians, engineers, studio's, etc. for all of his productions. It is amazing that the core group did not change that much over time, with the exception of the later Change productions which became more and more American over time (I know, I am a sad JFP nerd...).

I would love to see a photo of JFP as well, preferably at work. An interview would be great, too. Even someone describing him - what he looked like - would be great.

On the other hand, the fact that there is no photo out there AT ALL (contrary for instance to Patrick Adams, Alec Constadinos, Gregg Diamond or Tom Moulton) combined with the short carreer span (1978 - 1985 saw all of his releases), the conflicting accounts of his death and the beauty of his music just ads to the mystery that was JFP.

With regards to his death, there are a few versions. One is detailed on the website from Patrik. Another says that he was shot in Barbados. Regardless of where he died, it was apparently connected to drugs. From all the interviews that I have read with people that worked with him, JFP was a rather unreliable person, especially when it came to paying... This is a bad attitude in general, but especially dangerous when dealing with drug suplliers!

There is so much more information. For now, I think I will just list all the JFP productions:

    BB&Q Band: 4 albums and 1 compilation:
    - The Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens Band
    - All night long
    - Six million times
    - Genie
    - The best of (compilation)

    Change: 6 albums, 2 compilations:
    - The glow of love
    - Miracles
    - Sharing your love
    - This is your time
    - Change of heart
    - Turn on your radio
    - The collection (Compilation)
    - The very best of (Comppilation)

    High Fashion: 2 albums:
    - Feeling lucky
    - Make up your mind

    Macho: 2 albums:
    - I'm a man
    - Macho II: Roll

    Midnight Gang: one album
    - Love is magic

    Peter Jacques Band: 3 albums:
    - Fire night dance
    - Welcome back
    - Going dancing down the street

    Revanche: one album
    - Music man

    The Ritchie Family: one album
    - I''l do my best

    Rudy: one album
    - Just take my body

    Zinc: one album
    - Street level

Goody Music Orchestra: one album. This is actually a compilation album from various JFP acts.

PS Zinc released one track on 12" only, which can not be found on any LP: "I'm livin' a life of love" b/w "Livin' in the boogie now".

Well, unless I understood wrong, there are quite a few pictures of Costandinos, hard as hell to pick one up (minus the LP cover of "Americana"), but, there are a few.

Now that this is the first time ive ever used the quote, lol, the rest of the message is here cause i dunno how to get rid of it other than erase it all....im lazy today, dont feel the best..lol.

    Maarten,

Are you sure about this? I definitely recall having a Zinc 12" on Jive Records called "Street Level" from around 1982. It was in the same vain as BB & Q. For some bizarre reason I threw it away years ago and now wish I hadn't.

    Hello brothers!

Really great to see the huge interest in JFP!

I'm the author of the page that was mentioned in the numero uno message here.

A picture is a most wanted thing for sure.

I have talked to Jeff Bova (Change) and Davide Romani (Change) but there is no pic available. Also a friend have talked to Mauro Malavasi with the same result.

In addition all precise knowledge based on hard fact about his death are most appreciated, even though most things speaks for the hot waters outside Mexico City.

So a kingdom for a picture of him.

    To Jimmy:

Yes the discography is poor but that was also my idea to cover only his 80's production, and especially his 3 most amazing productions, BB & Q band, Change, and High fashion.

Also I prefer his 80's production in favor of his earlier one's, but that's just my personal point of view.

    Best regards

Hey Bernie - nice to see ya! I should have been more clear. What I was trying to say was that "I'm livin' a life of love" ONLY appeared on 12" and can not be found on any Zinc album. There is only one Zinc album anyway.

My theory is that this may have been either a 'left-over' from the BB&Q Band/Genie recordings, or the Peter Jacques Band/Dancing down the street recordings, which all came out around the same time.

The Zinc track sounds very "Change-like" from early 80's and does not really fit the pattern of Zinc's first album. That album is quite 'edgy', whereas Change was much smoother.

Perhaps JFP needed the money so he sold the track to Jive Records. Who knows?

And yes, there was a 12" of Streetlevel. Does anyone know if it was different from the album? As far as I know, it was the same.

    Hello again

A way to find out more about Petrus might be to found an article i Billboard magazine that was supposed to have been written somtimes between 1985 to 1987.

Does anybody out there collect such old magazines? If so, write hear or contact me directly to: starpatrik@telia.com

While combing through my vinyl collection today for songs I could use on a "Euro" CD I hope to put together (someday!), I discovered a record produced by Jacques Fred Petrus that I haven't seen mentioned in this discussion: "The Beast in Me" by Silence 2 featuring Gordon Grody.

I first heard this song years ago on a mix tape I bought from Techway Productions (which Nrg and I dicussed in a separate post) and have always loved it; it's very seductive and romantic. But until I started visiting this site, the name "Jacques Fred Petrus" meant nothing to me.

Anyway, the song is (c) 1984 on Speed Records (Italy) and produced by Petrus for Little Macho Music Co. Inc.

(And PS for Marky: I remember buying this one for practically nothing when Butch Wax was going out of business.)
