The Armada Orchestra, T.K. Disco, 1977 12" (TKD-20)
Side A: Philly Armada, 4:53
Side B: For the Love of Money, 6:58
Credited as taken from the lp, Philly Armada, on the Contempo label (1101). The album titled Armada Orchestra is on Scepter and the Disco Armada lp is on Contempo. No CDs available to my knowledge.
I have the self-titled LP from The Armada Orchestra from 1975 on Contempo/Scepter (SPS 5123). All tracks mixed by Tom Moulton. The music appears to be all instrumental covers, and the longest track is under 4 minutes.
I confess that I wasn't particularly impressed by this album.
the song i was talking about is called "Tell Me What You Want"
i guess this is the one on contempo/scepter. if you listin to the song, you can feel the hustle essenece it has. i love it.
as far as i know, the lady who owned scepter records at the time, commished the band to cut the record to build up the label
as a disco label. i wonder just who played on that track? because it sounds very familar to other recordings. hum...

it would be sweet if there's a copy of B.T. EXPRESS - EXPRESS
out there! :)
The 1975 release "The Armada Orchestra" LP on Scepter contains "Tell Me What You Want" ( originally done by Jimmy Ruffin) along with covers of Freda Payne's "Band Of Gold," The Four Tops' "It's "The Same Old Song"; Detroit Emerald's "Feel The Need"
(from the Disco Compilation Copnsensus Top Records of 1975:)
141) *"ARMADA ORCHESTA" LP: TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT/ IT'S THE SAME OLD SONG/ FEED THE NEED/ BAND OF GOLD - Armada Orchestra
(Scepter/Contmpo) B= 19; C= 19; D= 8; F= 13; G= 7; Total points = 66* still on chart

Great find Kaliffen ! 8) :D ----- Their modest reworking of "BAND OF GOLD " demonstrates how that song was this close to being disco in its original form .....
The Scepter label story is one of the best ......started by a housewife bored when her kids were in school ..... she carted the Chiffons around for years ... ( or was it The Shirelles ?? :-? ) didn't give up .....until they finally hit it big and it all paid off ......

Just picked up the Armada Orchestra LP, BUT the notes on the back cover indicate that a couple of the tunes were "big hits in England". However, my search for the artist in a UK charts compilation book turns up . . . nothing! So . .was wondering from you UK members if any of the instrumental tracks on the Armada Orchestra LP were indeed hits across the pond, or are those liner notes just a little overzealous PR ???
a little overzelous p.r i think but i think we got that this side too, there were no armada hits but they probibly did sell quite well, in the u.k we had blues& soul magazine and they had a shop in london called contempo that also did mail order it was a good shop i used to go there, that became a label that ran from 73-78 it was a great label releasing old indemand records and new releases lots of these records are quite collectable today[ armarda orc not included] blues and soul took out lots of ads for thier releases ive just been looking for some, jeez dorithy moore[misty blue] had a full page ad on the back of the mag for what seemed like months and it was a pop hit, so there was great promotion for the label below for remicks is a review of band of gold five stars! a review of the second album [surprise surprise 5 stars]an ad for the first album and a full page ad for some better releases
