Re: The campiest record of all time

I suppose if that's what defines "camp", then Jet Boy, Jet Girl and Johnny Are You Queer would have to be on the list

I don't mean to be pedantic but camp seems to mean different things to different people here. I always thought that it means unintentionally crap or knowingly humourous while alot of people think it means explicitly homoerotic. If we assume it's the former then 'Police Woman' by Lorna Wright is my choice, whilst if it's the latter then 'Cruising The Streets' by Boystown Gang is my choice.:icon_cool: :icon_confused:

I remember being in a club and the DJ played VICKI SHEPARD's "BRING ON THE BOYS" [The Dorothy Latex Mix] [which is a vocal version of ROFO'S THEME].

After he heard the song and the lines:

"The boys in their leather, the excitement of their uniform,A little taste of rubber & latex, makes me wanna sweat. All those sizequeens you know they check out those tight jeans..."

    Hmmmm you said camp ?!?!?!?

He then put the record back in the cheesy jacket and gave it to me...
Been playing it ever since !!!

I have not seen anyone mention Policewoman before. I saw her perform that in Bournemouth (of all places) when it came out and I rushed out and bought the 12". I never heard it in a club again! I must dig it out and play it, whenever I see it in my collection I cringe. To me the campest record is It's Raining Men by the Weather Girls, I never think of camp as explicity homoerotic. Just my take.

Why do you cringe? I think that's a really under-rated record.:icon_mad: I'm sure that given the right exposure it would've been a big pop crossover. 'I use my sex to intimidate & take out my anger on the nation'; genius!:icon_lol:

Actually, the definition of "camp" is something that was intended to be serious, but ends-up funny. (Think "Valley of The Dolls", or "Mommy Dearest")

To that end, I'll agree, wholeheartedly, with "Police Woman - Queen of the Neon Jungle". MDM/Virgin UK sent a few copies of the single to the record pools in the states. And I was, oh so, fortunate to have received one. Listen to it. They were serious about that recording being "sultry", and it's a friggin' scream!

"I can get away with blue murder" What the hell is "blue murder"???

I'll add to the list (if no one has, already), Gina Lamour's "The Continental".
"MUSIC IS AN EMOTION, SEARCHING FOR IT'S VOICE"

...come with me, "BACK TO MUSIC", on DISCOTERIA
