If you want to get deeper in Afro fusions try some King Sunny Aide and his african beats. He uses traditioanal Afro instruments and rhythms and fuses them with electronics and dub reggae stylings.
Island records put out some of his albums in the eighties. Aura is a good one.
Also Manu Dibango done some fine afro funk stuff. Soul Makossa and Abele Dance were singles. There has been a recent best of released on cd .
