I finally found a copy of the 12" last Saturday for $1.99!!! It looked a bit beat up--but the A-side played fine...the B-side short instrumental was a tad scratchy--but at least, I now own it. :D :D :D

    vs,

This track sounds NOTHING like his other stuff. It is pure bubblegummy DISCO with a capital "D"--135 bpm , remixed and totally reconfigured by the masterful John Luongo. You'd never recognize the raspy Mr. Adams' voice from this. In fact, we couldn't quite believe it was the same "cute" raspy-voiced guy who, a few years later, had "Cuts Like A Knife" in heavy rotation on MTV. Is that the same guy???? Well, technically "yes"; however, the record was sped way up (changing the tone of Bryan's gravelly voice to a light tenor, maybe?) and remixed into a disco pop confection totally unlike the slower "rocker" he had originally recorded. Hence, Mr. Bryan-he no likey. :P

Ermmmm, 131 BPM and if you slow it down by approximately 6.3% (half a tone) it is unmistakeably Bryan Adams.

    from Bernie's A-Z vault:

"My name is John Luongo and I know for a fact that Bryan's only problem with the mix or the additional production was the speed change as it pertained to his vocals. I stand by my decision to set the tempo of the track that I did. I agonized over this for hours as I mixed the record and every time I slowed this track down evena 1/2 % is sounded too slow. It lost the energy and the power that was in it. If it was slower it would have failed and I was left making that call by myself in New York at Media Sound. the record became a major hit around the world and Bryan was able to take this success and parlay it into a full and productive career.

The overdubs were done by Jim Vallance, Bryan Adams and myself while I traveled to Vancouver , B.C. There were vibes, a sax, tamborine and shaker as well as hand claps provided by the three of us. Jim Vallance confirmed to me that Bryans only problem was the speed of his vocals. Ohh , if only time compression were available then!!

Thanks for hearing the real side of the story."

I remember when Bryan Adams debuted on American Bandstand singing "Let Me Take You Dancing"... Super, super tight spandex pants if I remember correctly...May have added to the higher octave in the song... And that 70s feathered hair...Wow, quite a change from the 80s Bryan Adams most remember today....Take Care...Mario 8)

I apologize for digging up such an old post. I had no idea that Bryan Adams made his debut on Bandstand singing this particular song. I'm guessing this was in 1979? Who else performed on this episode?
