I don't think Haider was very discreet; wasn't his sexuality pretty much an open secret? I heard about it years ago, and apparently it was widely known back then.

I certainly didn't know it. I do watch and read a lot of politics, mostly American, on a daily basis. (Who am I kidding? On an hourly basis!)

Although many times I do watch/read BBC, Le Journal and others.

The article states it was "widely rumored" but not reported. Even upon his death, I saw nothing alluding to it.

However, being from Canada, I am not surprised that you, and the Europeans, had knowledge of this.

But it was "news" to me.

Still, it does not shock me.
