Who you elect is your business. Your country had a sad history of appeasing the Soviets. They intimidated Finland during the cold war. Granted you are a small country that couldn't match the Soviets militarily. But the Soviets in effect were silent partners in your government. Is ist true that the Finland-Soviet border towns were restricted areas in your own 'free' country?

At least the Finnish-Americans contributed a lot to my country. When they lived in Brooklyn, their neighborhoods were among the cleanest and safest in NYC.

I'm sure the Finns will crawl to Tehran and beg the mullahs "Please leave us alone", as you your pants fill with shit for another tyrant.

So far, the bull about the so called energy-program!
Maybe now the EuroCowards will see what's going on. But I doubt it. I bet right at this moment the President of Finland is preparing Finland's surrender documents.

The US has nukes in Belgium? I never knew that. What's up with Italy? Latest reports have Prodi winning but it's not official yet. Italy allows overseas citizens to vote, and that's what is in question. Do you think he'll give the US military the boot from Italy?

Your god-daughters are very pretty and very young. Too young for me unless I want to spend a few years up in Attica (a big prison in NY). I'd take that photo down, you never know where it will end up on the internet. Especially with some of the 'interesting' people who visit this board who are proabably drooling inappropriately right now, and YOU know who you are!!

If you only knew! We re-elected as our president a WOMAN, and what's more, she's actually is the ex-leader of the gay & lesbian association, an ex-single mother, a campaigner for social security, a no-nuker, and she has danced on a stage with James Brown! She wants a farewell to the arms and she does not wear cowboy boots! She does not like to even visit let alone dine at McDonalds, she's unacceptable and does not begin her mornings with a prayer session. She does not trust in GOD! She hangs around with hommasexuals! What kind of crappy wimplandia is this?!
      No wonder the Euros can't defend themselves!   Why should we shed American blood to defend this/ As I said 60 years of pacifism. I would suggest you all get your conversion papers ready and make a pre-haj to Mecca where there should be an abundant supply of new hijabs!

You Euros are really and truly fucked. How do you say " We surrender" in farsi?

Boy, there sure is a lot of tough talk here by guys who'd piss in their pants the first sign of trouble. I know the bush supporters, like their leader, find it a lot easier to have someone else do the fightin' for them. So go back to watching your Fox and American Idol.

It's a shame the whole world isn't pacifist. If the human race is ever going to survive, it has to stop fighting itself at some point. Maybe we're just not capable of that!!

You guys that are hawkish are only following a long line of Americans who were actually some of the biggest cowards to ever lead nations. You only joined the two world wars when you absolutely had to and in the case of the second world war, when you actually felt threatened. You've always been quick to shout "this isn't our fight" and yet you want to be seen as leaders of the free world? Where's your moral conviction? Talk about sitting on the fence and wimping out, and yes, you would be the first ones to wave the white flag!! You only went into Iraq to secure oil reserves. No other reason. So don't lecture Europeans on their stance. What would you do if a country 100 times your size had a border with you? Oh yeah, you'd fight 'em every inch of the way....NOT!!!

As a continental land mass that is fully detached from the rest of the world, you've always had this feeling of detachment and smugness. Being physically so far from anyone else has helped protect you from land invasion and wars. You haven't had to share your land, or directly protect it from agressive neighbours, who don't speak the same language or have the same culture. Count yourselves lucky and for once in your lives, try to see things from another (less parochial, more enlightened) perspective.

Speak for yourself Paul. I was fully prepared to take my trip to Vietnam, Republic of. And I still have my draft card to prove it.

Easy for you to say Quinny - you Limeys have always had the channel and us to save your ass from your "aggressive" neighbors.

Oh, the Channel really saved us from being invaded by the Romans, the Saxons, the Vikings, the French..........and you didn't save our ass in WWI or WWII. We were alone for 2 years in the Second World War until the Japs made your president and congress feel a tad insecure. In those two years and throughout the war, you made darned sure that you earned a pretty penny out of it. How two-faced was that? In effect this is what you glorious Yanks said to us for the first two years. "We won't join the war, but we'll sell you the armaments and food so YOU can carry on fighting on our behalf, that is if you agree to pay us back." Thank goodness the Japs shook you lot out of your moral ineptness and Hitler invaded Russia. If they hadn't done so, the possibility of German rockets raining down on New York, Philadelphia, Washington and Russian rockets on other major cities on the West coast would have been 100 times more real...and then you would have capitulated, 'cos you wouldn't have had an answer. Luckily, while you sat on your asses acting cute, we managed to stay out of harm's way thus providing you with the platform needed to save YOU from yourselves.

You appear to be a walking contradiction.
You were an anti-war protestor who in the middle of the game decided to switch sides. You now say you were prepared to go to Vietnam but didn't? Since then there were opportunities to serve in Greneda, and the first Gulf War.

Quinny, DM speaks for only some and does not represent most Americans.

Today also Russia has issued a very strong warning to Iran and urged them to stop their nuclear pokerplay!

Iran has said that it will not stop. Perhaps Russia will take a much stronger stance towards the mullahs now!

BTW, guys, this topic is not about Vietnam or WWI or II. It's about how to respond to a possible major threat coming from the Middle East and dealing with a government of Islamic lunatics!

IMO, over the last days Iran has proved that it's real intention is to develop nuclear arms, long-range nuclear arms!!!! Isn't it president "Al Moron-ah" Ahmadinnejad who said recently that Israël should be destroyed??

And this treat is not only for Fox and American Idol-viewers. It concerns the whole world. What if we have a regime change in Pakistan (nuclear power), taken over by Mullahs (who already are very powerful in Islamic Pakistan) and ready to join their Iranian jihad-fighters?

(off-topic, Italy is still deciding which party has won and Berlusconi has asked for a recount of some 80.000 votes-his adversary has already announced that he will pull Italian troops back from Iran)

Right on, Videoskooter! Too bad more of your European neighbors don't see what's going on. But they didn't see what was going on with Der Fuhrer until he roared into Poland in 1939. The French caved in to Hitler in two weeks in 1940, offering surrender without firing a shot in defense of Paris.

This time much more is at stake. Notice how none of our EuroPunk and AmeriPunk appeasers have put forth any strategy to keep the mullahs from getting The Bomb. They make wise-ass comments criticizing Bush, but offer nothing concrete. Why? Because they just want the problem to go away, even if it means submitting to Iranian blackmail.

(Speaking of Italy. Their system of allowing Italian citizens abroad to vote created problems. I was speaking to someone today who received a ballot. He's from Italy but is an American citizen and should not have received a ballot. I'm sure thousands more improperly received ballots.)

So, how to solve this. Who knows. All sides seem to have intractable positions that seem rational based on one's perspective. The larger global community fears yet another "nucular" nation. The Israelis, US, and Europeans dont want another Islamic state with nukes, esp. one sitting atop oil. Iran wants nuclear capability if nothing else cause Israel has nukes.
I have heard the Iranians would be willing to give up their nuke program if Israel gets rid of theirs. Perhaps we can start there.

I guess you are also a revisionist
Fact is that you''ll never know what "alone" trully is , do you?

If it hadn't been for the Yanks that provided you with new planes Petro, food, Ammo and everything else you would have never survived the Blitz, and it is a very well known fact the American Merchant marine was fighting an undeclared war against the German u-boats running the blockade to get to you long before the formal War declaration, a silent war that cost the lifes of thousands of American sailors...

And , unfortunately , Yes, I think there is another bloody war in the Horizon, but notice the stroke of geniuos of this President, we are right there building forward bases with runways as far as the eye can see and equipment ready to hammer this lunatics into the desert sand, we need to give them a real bloody nose this time , not gentle like before

By the way, congrats to Prodi. Hopefully Berlusconi wont learn from his good buddy bush how to steal elections.
Oh and back to the topic. Reason, fairness, and critical thinking is what's called for here. I know this is the opposite of the chicken little approach the bush crime family and his minions are used to.
Let me assist some of you with a thought experiment here. If the Iranians threatened us with nukes in 5 years, we outnumber them a 1000 to one in terms of nukes. A nasty exchange yes but that would mean the end of Iran. What about threatening the oil supply. This is more likely. This possiblity exist primarily if the US and Iran go to war now. The big down for the Iranians will be a loss of revenue which will fund their government.
Did that help?

yeah, Paul that is funny-- if not a tad sad.

I'm finding myself actually feeling sorry for the Prez since he is so obviously in over his head. He is CLUELESS. When I watch him trying to put a "happy face" on this war debacle...I feel pity for the FOOL.

PITY THE FOOL--may he be replaced before he launches World War III with his idiotic posturing. I smell a coup--the military has just about had enough of this IDIOCY!!!!! The generals are leaking this stuff to Seymour Hersch cuz they want him STOPPED before he blows the whole world up.
