My mind makes a confusion between RAH BAND and SARR BAND (similar names). "Mephisto" (or "Mafisto") by SARR BAND shows a carnal demon terrifyiing some innocent girls, a disco thriller. I like it.

METHUSALEM"Zombie"(LP/"Journey Into The Unknown"/)
17)SARR BAND"Mephisto"(7"/1977)

- Is this the same track as the amazing Mephisto as performed by The Diabolic Soul invention - in other words, does it have a slobbering "demon" possessing a breathy female?

23)KEANE BROTHERS"Is Love Not Enough"(LP/"Taking Off"/
1979)
What is this like?

33)LOLA DEE"Love In Space"(7"/1978)
LOLA DEE - with a name like that this track HAS to be fabulous, right? Info, please!

37)EVIE SANDS"Keep My Lovelight Burnin´"(12"/Long
Version/1979)
Another strange great sounding title - what's it like?
- grazie!

Dear marcio! Dear JussiK!

About SARR BAND: I even didn´t know about them, but
this track is the B-Side of a 7" called "Magic Mandrake"
and sound more like CRYSTAL GRASS, although it is more
dramatic and sometimes real opera-like. It seems that SARR
BAND is from Italy.

About KEANE BROTHERS: Two guys are singing in a very
kitschy but nice drama inside. If you are into ANDY GIBB
or similar artists, this could be a record for you. "Taking
Off" has been released in 1979 on ABC Records. Produced
by LAMONT DOZIER.

About LOLA DEE: "Love In Space" is the B-Side of "For
Your Love"(which is much better from CHILLY), but this
track is sleazy and more spacey porno-style in cheesy
munich-style. Released in 1978 and for sure from Germany.

About EVIE SANDS: Something for Diva-Lovers...dramatic
and typical sophisticated US-Disco. Prod. by Michael Ste-
wart & Evie Sands. Released in 79 on RCA Records.

SARR BAND - Magic Mandrake was a sizeable underground disco hit in the UK. The 12" was a bit cheesey (vocals) and possibly no longer than the 7", but the overall sound was pretty funky and very danceable. I always thought they were from France and I think one of our French contributors confirmed this in a thread somewhere here. Let's hope they read this.

And here I've been thinking for the last two decades that Sarr Band was from Canada! My 12 inch of "Magic Mandrake" and another of "Mafisto" (that's the spelling on the label) are on Montreal's Unidisc Records. In fact it appears that "Magic Mandrake" may be Unidisc's first 12 inch single since that catalogue number is UNI-1001. "Mafisto" is UNI-1005.

Bernie: I guess it could have been Canadian. It was the first release on UniDisc (only found that out a few months ago), but maybe they bought it in? It was a record that didn't give any real clues to its origin on the UK release on Calendar Records. I'm just going by the female voice (which sounds French more than anything else) 'cos I've long forgotten any info I might have known about it at the time.

Much of Unidisc's material was licensed from other labels. Bernie, one way to tell if this is Canadian or not is that there would be a logo on the label with the letters MAPL on it. This is the "CanCon" symbol, used to indicate to radio stations that a record is an all or partly Canadian artist/production. This is essential to know in a nation where broadcast regulations require stations to devote a certain percentage of air time to Canadian Content.

You have no idea how sick I am of Celine Dion and Bryan Adams....

Graham,

Thanks for clarifying what that little logo means. Going by what you say then The Sarr Band is not from Canada after all since the label does not have the logo.

Quinny,

French origins sounds like a good choice. The label says, "A Calendar / Sarr Recording."

IN THE NAME OF LOVE by Sharon Redd --- I'll probably have them play it at my funeral. You said you used the 12" and the Hot Trax remix. I only know of the Disconet remix. What is the Hot Trax version like?

Do you and Jussi hang out togther  ? Both of you always have so much "new to me" music. Loving the education. :)

Dear NickNack!
About SHARON REDD´s "In The Name Of Love". On the
Unidisc-12" from 1989 is the Hot-Trax-Version on it. It
is a little bit harder with less orchestra. I like more the
Disconet-Version because of the violins and the very
dramatic style.

Dear Giovanni!
About TOMMY STEWART(LP/1976). Yes, there is a track
called "Bump And Hustle Music".
