Nah Greg don't agree about FM...the beauty is that anyone online across the world can listen ! I have regular US and Brazilian listeners, one in Hong Kong, one in Cape Town and from across Europe too. I love the idea of that. Plus, in real time the Starpoint forum is fun because it's instant ! Add to that the Sky listeners (I don't know if that's only available in the UK?) and the internet its a great radio medium. Plus...and this is important... the only restriction on what you can play is set by you. Where else could you hear a playlist like the one you posted up? I've done four seperate live shows this week - eleven hours, plus the regular two hour recorded show..loved every second of it and so was able to share music I love from Disco to Soul to Northern Soul to Modern Soul to ballads Jazz Funk, Funk.....brand new tracks and tracks going back forty years. And as a tool for new music internet radio is a great medium as well and the small independent companies realise that. I get sent things all the time because they know it gets the product out there. The music business is changing so fast. So keep up the good work ! |

| 99% agree with you Simon but at the same time there is something about doing an 'FM Show'. I love the fact that there are thousands of people listening in their cars or at home on a medium that has a potential reach of millions. The Internet does have a global reach and like you my shows touch the lives of people in the US, India, Russia, Japan - all over. The numbers however are tiny when compared to FM. One of the reasons I do it is because the airwaves are carved up by an authority whose only purpose is to serve large corporate media companies. The listener is treated with complete comtempt - there is an definite audience for Disco music (in all its different guises) yet it is completely ignored (unless you count Heart's Club Classic show - whose playlist repeats every couple of weeks) by these companies.

| Agreed Headlamp - and sorry to those outside the UK but this is very UK specific - take what was 'Jazz FM', now 'Smooth FM'. The station was when it started, Jazz. Over the course of time those authorities have allowed it to become something entirely different, now it's like 'housewives choice'. I was at the stations relaunch do....the writing was on the wall then, but I'm amazed they've been allowed to go where they have. The contemptuous way they view their potential audience is shockingly poor. At least internet stations don't have that commercial consideration in the same way. An while the listening figures are obviously less, the potential to hear the shows as podcasts after initial broadcast is massive. But I was told recently by someone inside the mainsteam radio world that the BBC Radio 6 listening figures were virtually non existent. The business of making and marketing music is changing so fast. |

| I'm listening to your show as I write this, and it's very enjoyable (just had Kleeer / Narada Michael Walden / Bobby Thurston, all tracks I know and love). Does naming your show "Disco Magic" owe any inspiration from the old "DISCO Magic with Dr. Rob" shows that used to be online (and I was a great fan of) or is it purely coincidental?

Thanks for listening and for your kind comments! Honest answer regarding the name of my show, and you know where you heard it first! I personally was going to call it 'Greggy Gs Super Disco Sound', and my girlfriend suggested Disco Magic, because she connected this name with her favourite disco tune, Love Magic by John Davis! Best wishes, Greg Last edited by greggyg; October 1st, 2007 at 04:43 AM. Reason: I wrote Rob instead of Darren! |
