What's not to like ....fast paced piano/trumpet driven, always churning instrumental .... delightful

( I , however , personally would've left the floor when that was followed by the Fatback tune :roll::roll: ..... but , would've been tired anyway :lol: )
It's a good Fatback tune though .....makes me think INSIDE AMERICA
Sorry to rain on your parade, Remicks, but THE FLASHER still makes my stomach churn, even after 30 years. It never 'sat right' with me then and it still doesn't. If anything, it shows exactly why we thought the Northern Soul scene was a little strange. The record has everything to do with big band music and not an ounce of soul is on display. It couldn't even be called a Jazz-Funk record (which for something featuring some pretty good jazz trumpet licks is really odd). My skin is creeping just thinking about it.

As for Fatback's Party Time.....I loved it for the rolling, laid back bass and general sentiments, BUT it always sounded incredibly lack-lustre and tired. As if the band couldn't be bothered when they recorded it. However, it DID make people dance (for a while).

GREG: These flashbacks are great listening (or they would be if I had broadband; could Samurii give a low quality option?). More or less the soundtrack to my DJ career also. I'm eagerly awaiting Lee Eldred's How's Your Love Life to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world (although I see it did make the US Disco charts too). It is coming, isn't it?

That's just amazing to me Quinny .
This song has everything that would've gotten me on the floor .....specifically : uplifting energy . I particularly like the little rhythm line the piano carries throughout. And the horns: so crystal clear and up front. You don't hear the dialogue they're having ?? By the end its a raucous shouting match !!

There are a couple of points there where it drops into this sort of tango thing ... and I think "oh oh' ...but fortunately it only toys with this briefly, and then gets back to business .
I like a song with confidence (as is the same with TURN THE BEAT AROUND which Greg has on here just before it).... that's what I hear here .... it charges forward and never loooks back ....

I wish I could talk you out of insisting that "disco" and "soul" are supposed to be attached at the hip .... YOU ARE DENYING YOURSELF SO MUCH !!!

Oh well ..... Another one certified with the Quinny seal of non-approval !!!

As for PARTY TIME ....
....( some people get high off the music .... some people get high off of other things
So long as you don't hurt no-bawdy ....
I don't care how you do your partying...
)

A good bridge song .... which is another thing that hearing these tunes played through on Greg's time capsule help point out. Not every tune was meant to be played alll the way thru ... (most weren't )... that was part of the job of the DJ .... to know when, and be ready to , get the heck out of there ....and I do think that the crowd would drop off if this song were left on too long . Too keep them on the floor I could hear mixing this about halfway in , to LET'S GROOVE by EW & F .

Back to Mistura Feat Lloyd Michels THE FLASHER .....I'm hooked big time !!I've got it blasting away right now.... my head's a boppin' .... and I'm going to shake my ass to it down the hallway to the shower and get ready for work!........:lol::lol::lol:.....................:o... .............8-)..........
..........:oops::oops:.......

I've always enjoyed music with a certain amount of soul/funk/feel/groove/je ne sais qoi and I'm sorry, but THE FLASHER just sounds wrong to me (as a record to be played to predominantly young people in a Discotheque...Northern Soul scene excepted). I do (or did) have a copy though. Pretty sure the guy who sent it to me (and charged me full price for it) got it for free and passed it by too as such. It just wasn't our bag.

I feel like dragging your ass out for a long wild night at Studio One and when you're good and loosey goosey ....
say about 12:45 ... sneaking this one in on you ...
and watch you blow your whistle , bang your tambourine , hoot and holler and finally leave the floor in an exhausted elated sweaty heap !! :razz::lol::lol:

oh well :roll: ......you know what they say ....

You can lead a DJ to the pool (record)
but you can't always make him take the plunge ...
.

oh oh ...gots the song back on ...... horns a wailin' ..... excuse me .......... got to saunter down the hallway again ...........:lol::lol:............................. .................................................. ..........:oops::oops:

Do you recall why not ???
Hi remicks: I didn't know it. As far as I'm aware, it made no impression whatsoever in the UK. Either that or it was something I completely missed at the time (however, I'm sure I would have heard someone else playing it).

Hi Quinny: I suppose that when it comes to streaming / downloads, broadband is pretty much a must these days.

On the plus side, 'How's Your Love Life' is a June '76 track.

Hi starsky: Coming anytime now - it's usually no more than a week after Samurai. I'll keep you posted.

Hi again - just doing some research for this months Time Capsule and found Jackie Robinson 'Movin' Like A Superstar' in the Blues & Soul British Singles Chart. It was released on Pye Records and entered at the lowest possible position, #100, on June 8th. The following week it went up to #96, but it dropped out after that. Interestingly another 'Movin' Like A Superstar', this time by Jacky James on Aquarious Records, entered the same week (june 8th), but a place higher at #99. The following week it dropped to #100 and, like Jackie Robinson, vanished from the chart completely after that.
