....and thoroughly enjoyable too! The standout tracks for me are the original full length version of Love Hangover (I'd like to get my hands on a copy of that track) and still sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago and Fopp - The Ohio Players as there is a CD/DVD retail chain based in the UK named after that track - it carries a larger than normal selection of Funk/Soul/Disco then the others.

Looking forward to May already!!

Hi Davicillo: Been wanting to come to Brighton, but haven't managed to find somewhere to play as yet. a few people who are putting on nights have been in touch, but still waiting for something definite. Any ideas? What's the Funky Fish?

To date, my only appearance in Brighton was back in Dec '83
(http://www.electrofunkroots.co.uk/norman_cook.htm), although I used to get down quite a lot during the late 80's (when I lived in London) and always enjoyed the clubs there.

Hi Greg,

I spent two nites at the 'Funky Fish'. Had a fab time. Musically it's 60's soul with a smattering of Rolling Stones, Lulu (love loves to love' (quite funky), Who, kinks and 70's/80s disco.Age group....25-35 mainly but some oldies like me and some younger as well.
The 'Funky Buddah' is trendy and Poo nah nah do a retro nite on Fridays. I live in Worthing but there's naff all here! LOL!

the sound quality : 8) :D

the song choices : 8) :D

I'm surprised you are not mixing these sets Greg ..... ..... I'm guessing that maybe your intent is to provide these songs in their entirety 8)
( still though .... aren't you denying yourself a big chunk of the fun?)

Taking requests ?? ......If so, would sure love to hear MOVING LIKE A SUPERSTAR ...... a big hit from that time that I still haven't chased down to hear !!

Thanks for the great listening !! Anyone interested in hearing these disco greats in their entirety ... not just snippets ..... these Time Capsules are a great place to do so .....

I tried to pose this so it didn't sound challenging VS ...  ......... I'm grateful for the full-length versions too. I just wonder how hard it must be for Greg to resist messing with these songs .....and mixing 'em ......

Greg, I'm listening to various mixes of yours right now and I enjoy your picks very much. I even enjoy your electrostuff and that's weird coz' I'm normally not so much into that stuff

Remicks, he CAN mix I can tell you that. I like the time capsules coz' they feature the full lengths!

Greg, maybe stupid question but do you release mixed or compiled cd's as well?

Hi remicks and Videoskooter:
Firstly, really glad you're enjoying the Time Capsule programmes.

With regards to why the programmes aren't mixed, I explained this in the accompanying text to 'First Impressions', which was the prototype for the Time Capsule programmes:

In compiling ‘First Impressions’, I’ve presented the music not as a mix, but a reflective selection, with each track played in its entirety (some from 7”, others via the full-length album versions). This, I feel, was the right approach, because we didn’t mix in those days – the closest we got was ‘three in a row’ or a ‘Motown spot’, uninterrupted by the usual verbal interludes. For DJ’s in this country, the microphone was an essential tool of their trade and it wouldn’t be until later in the decade that UK DJ’s began to experiment with mixing. Even then, the overwhelming majority dismissed it as a US fad that would never really catch on here. Although I’d eventually become known for my mixes during the early 80’s, both on the radio and in the clubs, it wouldn’t be until the Rave explosion, later in the decade, that mixing really began to take off with the majority of British DJ’s.

Sorry, but no requests, I'm afraid. Time Capsule is a subjective selection, which focuses on the records I was personally playing at the time. It's very much a UK take on things, so apologies if records from the same period that you might have been into aren't included - this is because I didn't have these records myself.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback and the positive vibes :)

Great compilation Greg (like always)!

Mud is a surprise. I always liked their Glam Rock stuff like "Tiger Feet" and "The Cat Crept in" but I also did like "Shake it down", very unusual for them, but a great track that's been underrated.

Most enjoyable

Best "find" of the set : Mistura Feat Lloyd Michels THE FLASHER (route)
What's not to like ....fast paced piano/trumpet driven, always churning instrumental .... delightful

( I , however , personally would've left the floor when that was followed by the Fatback tune :roll: ..... but , would've been tired anyway  )
It's a good Fatback tune though .....makes me think INSIDE AMERICA

Best song of the set 8-)......
Donna Summer COULD IT BE MAGIC (gto) ......... of course ;-)
............ ( 45 edit ? )

Thanks ... once again .... fine listening !!
:)

Now I'm wondering Greg .....you never played MOVIN" LIKE A SUPERSTAR back then ?
Do you recall why not ???
