One - Other than Kiss, I thought Casablanca was primarily a disco label? (But I suppose albums by Captain & Tennille and Tony Orlando don't count as disco either do they. )
Well they chased after the rock market too ....with acts like Angel and I think Stallion (?) but with abysmal success .

Two - the dictionary definition of "manic" reads... "affected by mania", while "mania" reads "denoting extreme enthusiasm or admiration" and so the publisher did use this word correctly because disco did elicit extreme enthusiasm and admiration.

OK fair enough for the word "manic" .... now how do we smooth out the accompanying word "descend"

That's what they came to be known for, but I don't think it was ever their aim. They just wanted to sell loads of records, period. They signed rock acts all along, and even put out a couple of comedy albums. Wasn't the very first Casablanca album a collection of bits from "The Tonight Show"?

Yes it was...the company almost went bankrupt over this one !! But the early success of Kiss changed that.

I'm curious to read (if indeed it is in the book) how the company managed to become synonymous with "disco".

I think that has to do with the massive success of "Love To Love You Baby" (and as you know, side 2 of that album is essentially rock music). They were the first -- or at least, among the first -- of the labels to promote records through club DJs instead of radio, and that was key to the success of LTLYB. It was a winning formula, so it made sense to keep going with it. Obviously club DJs wanted records suited to clubs. :)

BTW, I thought LTLYB was the album that pulled them from the brink... didn't Kiss take another year or two to get huge?

Kiss hit it big with Alive back in 1975...and according to Wiki (I know-I know...) - it is the album that saved Casablanca records from going bankrupt.

It was released in September of 1975 while Donna's Love to love you baby album was released...on August 27 1975. But also according to wikipedia - Neil decided to release the single on November 1975 and the album went gold in late 1975.So what gives ????

Now the question is - which one did what and in what order ???
My money is on Donna - of course !

"Rock And Roll All Nite" (45) debuted on the Hot 100 on Nov. 15, 1975. "Love To Love You Baby" (45) debuted on the Hot 100 on Dec. 6, 1975.

Sounds like both albums played a vital role in the company's history.

just to get it stright- KISS was exploding followed by Donna and that Followed by The Parliament- all three happened at almost the same time- We made more money from Donna and Parliament because we did not owe them back royalties in the millions like we owed KISS- KISS Alive did sell many more records than Donna - We also had Rodney Dangerfield, Robin Williams and pretty much the rest were Disco albums with a few not great sellers but great artists like T-REX and Long John Baldry and Fanny ( if it wasn't for the sex radio police there single would have been our big first hit) The whole discography is in the book..

That's quite funny ( good grief what was that Fanny single like !! ) ......since instead your first big hit was that of a woman moaning one long orgasm !!!
