I bought Patti's "Patti Austin" album on CD when it was released many years ago as a Japanese import. The same with one of my favorites of her catalog "Getting Away With Murder"! However, it sure is nice to see a domestic release. BTW, you can also get the CDs, plus a nice greatest hits of hers, direct from the label, Mosaic Contemporary Jazz Music !

did you see Patti on the recent Ella Fitzgerald tribute show, "We All Love Ella"? Looks like she's lost about 100 lbs, if they hadn't introduced her by name I wouldn't have known it was her. But she sounds better than ever.

Indeed I did see the show and Patti was spectacular as usual and did, as I understand, undergo a gastric bypass to lose around a 100 pounds.

Her duet with Natalie Cole at the end of the show on "Mister Paganini" was a knockout....what a couple of great voices...such fun to see them perform together!

by the way, the sassy, soulful singer named Ledisi (she was really cuttin' up!) is from my home town, Oakland California

I read an article on Patti a little while back where she said she had a health scare which resulted in her wanting to take better care of herself. Thus, not only the gastric bypass but more careful eating habits.

Patti and Natalie were fab on that special (which is now out on DVD), and Skinflint, I have to agree that Bay Area girl, Ledisi, was also pretty fab herself! I was inspired to buy her latest CD based on that performance.
