Default Sister Sledge catalog to be released on cd

Found this on another site thought it might be of interest.

On September 18th, all of Sister Sledge's out of print albums for the Atlantic label (which is pretty much all of them except "We Are Family") will finally be reissued on CD by Wounded Bird Records. Apparently you can pre-order these cd's on Amazon, CD Universe, etc.

This will include such titles as "Circle of Love", "Together", "Love Somebody Today" and others.

Oh i love Wounded Bird records! They've previously released on CD for the first time artists such as Narada Michael Walden, Patrice Rushen & Deodato. One Sister Sledge LP that I have seen previously on CD is 'All American Girls'.

Rhino released that along with Love Somebody Today, but they're long out of print. I picked them up in the cutout bins years ago and haven't seen them since.

I know I'm not being asked but I'll reply anyway! The 2 tracks you mentioned are my 2 favourites from this otherwise lacklustre LP. I rushed out & bought it when it came out in 1980 & was disappointed & haven't changed my opinion really. I s'pose 'We Are Family' was a tough act to follow but this LP showed how Chic were losing their golden touch & how they probably saved their decent material for Diana's LP! Sister Sledge made the right move by going with Narada Michael Walden for their next LP which was fabby.

I too love Wounded Bird! I wonder who's behind that label? They are really releasing on CDs many of the top titles on my wish list, including the Sister Sledge "Together" album (produced by the guys behind Silver Convention).

Did anybody else get the Pointer Sisters "Special Things" just recently released on CD by Wounded Bird?

I've never heard anything from that LP & never seen it for sale anywhere so I'll put that on my CD wishlist!

Sandy, I believe the biggest hit from that album (and it was very minimal) was "Blockbuster Boy," which I loved! At the time of release, I thought it was a decent album. Hope it stands to the test of time!

Sandra: I agree, most of the "Love Somebody" album was really uninspired. I was equally disappointed in the Chic-produced Debbie Harry album, "Koo Koo". But I saw a strong connection between Chic and Narada Michael Walden's work anyway. Not only did Nard and Nile play on Stacy Lattisaw's wonderful song "Dreamin", which Narada produced, but Narada wrote and produced a song called "Don't You Want My Lovin'" for an artist named Wanda Walden that sounds so much like Chic you'd swear it was Chic if you weren't looking at the label.

Oh I love that track! I've got the Elektra LP that's it's taken from. Wanda also did a fabulous track the following year ('82) called 'I Must Be Dreaming' produced by Narada's right-hand men Preston Glass & Randy Jackson; if you haven't heard it you must check it out - it has a more Kashif/Evelyn King sound rather than her previous Chic-style sound. (also on Elektra BTW)

Finally bought two of the re-issued CD's. CIRCLE OF LOVE and TOGETHER.
The quality of CIRCLE OF LOVE is superb. Wounded Bird or Rhino did an excellent re-mastering job. They are to be congratulated, even though the liner notes are minimal.
The only disappointment is Pain Reliever. Every version I've heard is very shrill sounding. (nails dropping on tin)-----
I thought this new CD would have fixed that problem. I think the problem comes from the master. Was this song recorded first??
On the other hand, Love Don't You Go Through No Changes sounds the best it ever has.
This was the song that I played at The DOK West in Orange County. It packed the floor.
The sound quality of TOGETHER is not as good. I also believe this is because of the master.
Less bass and a little more distortion (over saturation).
I also enjoy the production and arrangements on CIRCLE over TOGETHER.
The harmonies on CIRCLE are right on--These girls were from Philly and sound better singing Philly. I had this LP but never really listened to it. It's now one of my favorites.

Just got this one & it is very good isn't it? At times they sound like early First Choice I think (but without Rochelle's distinctive voice of course!). I was surprised that most of the album is co-written by Gwen Guthrie; I knew she wrote back in the day but I didn't know she wrote so much.
