If ever there was an oxymoron, Cocktail Disco has to be it.

BBE: A track listing would be of interest and expected release date. Summer's an awfully long way off, even though we've had summer like weather recently.

AshleyK: I like your version much better and it's possibly nearer to the truth.

I should make it clear that no offence is meant to Dimitri or the fine people at BBE with that image.

It's just a cheap gag.

Thanks for the update! Judging from his blog, it seems like this CD is going to be "Dimitri does sleaze"...

Anyway, I'm not even that much of a seasoned collector but those look like some real obscurities there! I've only heard two tracks on this: Richie Family and Darcus, and I didn't even know there was a seven minute version of the Darcus track.. Looking forward to hearing this!

i also have many disco records - but not many that are on this comp.

so i was delighted to get to hear some - and it is very disco & swishy!

I love the disco version of summertime its great and not sleazy.

Think the release date is 4th june

hey neonlights,

i read some press today on the new dimitri lp and it says it is sleaze!

"‘Cocktail Disco’ has that ubiquitous 4/4 beat and flying open high hat complemented by rich orchestrations, campy over the top vocals, and an often tropical latin vibe. Something that wouldn't feel out of place in a broadway musical. In its’ heyday (roughly 1976 to 1979) it was called ‘Sleaze’. There were even DJs who specialized in the ‘Sleaze’ sound which was usually played after hours, in spots with a strong sex oriented drive."

I didn't hear it, maybe i've spent so many years immersed in disco i'm immune or maybe i've completely missed a whole sub-genre of disco, which i guess this cd is there to highlight...

I bought the CD today and all I can say that it is a great disco compilation.

It draws from the golden era of 1975 to 1979.... so for all fans who like disco-music played by real musicians, full of orchestrations, brass, sax and flute solos... with lots of percussion, then this album is unmissable.

There is plenty of obscure music on this double CD. Well... maybe some of us may have heard some of the songs at the time, but it is impossible to remember now. The only songs I had was Frenesi by The Ritchie Family and The Vincent Montana produced album by Astrud Gilberto from which Dimitri takes Girl From Ipanema.

But the fact that the album is packed with rarities is not the most important feature. The album is good because the songs are excelent, not because they are obscure. The fact that they are rare is just a bonus.

This album reflects the spirit of the mid to late 70's.
